Every travel blogger asks themselves this question: Why did you start blogging? When did it really start? Why did I get into blogging? Having a personal blog has clearly been on my mind for a long time. We all share the same passion for travel and discovery. We dream of living abroad, of what our next trip will be, of flying to places we can’t miss… A beautiful discovery of the Philippines, Lombok Island, Papua, Colorado or the Salar of Uyuni, would you like to go?! Who has never heard of these places? Just buying plane tickets and thinking about the big departure already excites us, doesn’t it? After having experienced so many things while traveling, having traveled to dream destinations, the idea of creating a travel blog was obviously in my head.

My experience, my travel instinct, my wonderful encounters, my personal favorite places, my long trip to Southeast Asia, my solo trip to Norway for a month, and more recently our travels, our family adventures in the Pacific Ocean and my expatriation to Mayotte or Tahiti islands, these are all things that made me want to create a blog. Other travelers started long before me, and I sometimes feel like I’m quite late to the trend!

My passion for travel photography hasn’t helped and living a nomadic life is still somewhere in my head. It’s hard to find a balance between earning a living through studies and graduation and the constant desire to discover the four corners of the world. Anyway, with this travel blog, I hope to inspire all travelers to immerse themselves, like adventurers, in the world around us. I hope that my travel pictures in Cambodia, rice fields in Vietnam, scenes of life in the depths of Myanmar will make you dream!

You may wonder, does he want to live off his blog one day? Yes, if I can in a while, a few years, blog, travel and live off it, I wouldn’t say no obviously. I’m still a long way from city trips between bloggers, blogtrip between friends, press trips for travel agencies! As time goes by, I hope to be able to make it as some of the so-called web influencers.

Other bloggers are already doing it. However, I know that it will be a hard task (and the word is weak). A lot of travel blogs have been around for a long time: The Blonde Abroad, Wandering Earl, Nomadic Matt, I Am Aileen, Lost With Purpose, etc.

Welcome to my travel and photography blog Les Deux Pieds Dehors

A few lines to tell you about my adventure and what led me to create this travel blog. I had already, in recent years, during my travels around the world, started to write travelogues, especially during my trip to Southeast Asia. I liked the idea and even if I didn’t do a real “round-the-world tour” like some people, the desire to write about my travels grew. I didn’t necessarily have the idea in mind to do a “round-the-world blog” strictly speaking, but to share our experiences around the world.

I could already see myself at the time giving advice to travelers, knowing for example how to prepare your trip, which backpack to choose, explaining how to get off the beaten track, whether or not to prepare your trip around the world, what to plan for a trip to Peru? When to go on a trip to New York, etc. Basically, the kind of things that make you dream just by thinking about it, right?

And then, finally, I started here, in French Polynesia where I’ve been living for more than 3 years at the time of writing these few lines. Why this travel blog now? A click, an encounter that motivated me to get started. Creating a travel blog in 2017 was bold, you could say. I already know the best travel blogs, so to speak, in the Blogosphere, and it will not be easy to stand out from the crowd. I don’t have all the ideas in place yet, and at some point I’ll have to make a choice (or several) on the editorial line to hold for my readers.

Why am I telling you all this then? To finally bring you to the content of my blog. First of all, I should talk about a travel and photography blog, because these are ultimately the two great passions in my life and the blog will therefore be based on these two themes, which in many cases, in my opinion, come together. Beautiful pictures of Angkor, Mongolia or Costa Rica, it always makes you dream, doesn’t it? So what are you going to find on this travel blog? First, the world of travel, of course. Whether you are motivated by the idea of traveling the world, going on a trip for a few months, traveling to Nepal, on a trip to Burma, Patagonia, Bolivia or Sri Lanka, finally you’ve come to the right place. We have a common passion 🙂

On this travel blog, I will try as time goes by to tell you about my travels, about our family holidays now, in French Polynesia as well as in Laos or New Zealand, but also about those recently passed. I will also give you tips and tricks for preparing a trip (if you feel like it) but also my advice for getting by on the road as they say, choosing your travel accessories, etc. Because this blog is also based on my vision of travel, simple, authentic, off the beaten track, so to speak. That’s what I like anyway. So you won’t find a lot of info on organized trips, but rather a blog oriented towards cheap travel in backpacker mode. Sleeping in a local’s house, couchsurfing or wwoofing, sleeping in airbnbs, that’s the kind of thing I often prefer. But my travel practice may evolve, who knows? In any case, traveling cheaper and giving tips may allow more people to travel according to me.

Besides that, I will talk about my second passion, photography and especially travel photography. The blog is for the moment focused on the basics of photography, techniques and photo tips and finally tips for travel photography. What a pleasure I get to shoot while traveling. The most beautiful landscapes in the world deserve to be captured in beautiful photos, even if I must admit that the result is sometimes far from the reality of the moment. So I hope to lead you to progress towards travel photography, hoping to share my passion with you!

Last but not least, the last point that I wanted to develop on my travel blog is helping to find cheap plane tickets, a round the world ticket. I wouldn’t say it’s a passion but almost. In short, I invite you to check out the pages specialized in the domain, some updated monthly and others daily!

INSPIRATION THROUGH TRAVELING AROUND THE WORLD

The destinations of the blog

We all travel for different reasons and mostly to different destinations. So here are a few words about the destinations of my travel and photography blog.

Even if I consider to have already traveled quite a lot (I’m not a great traveler compared to some people), I’ve just discovered the North American continent with a trip to the national parks in the United States that I made in August 2018. I don’t know South America or Latin America yet. I already plan to spend a few weeks trotting in the western part of the United States. The ideal would be to leave for several months to discover the country and organize your trip there. For the moment, it is not possible.

Having started my blog long after I started traveling, it will be difficult for me to tell you about the old trips I’ve done, for example when I traveled alone in Norway in the Lofoten Islands, with a friend in Iceland for treks, my city trip in Stockholm, or during my first trip to the island of Martinique. I have the impression that it was so long ago, already more than 10 years ago. At that time, I had made a travel diary for each roadtrip or long trip.

However, I would be happy to take you on a tour of my recent adventures in Oceania, of course French Polynesia where I currently live, but also the other islands I have had the opportunity to see: Easter Island, New Caledonia or New Zealand. All these islands at the end of the world, I appreciate them with good reason. A good exotic bath as I like them.

A destination that I will evoke with pleasure will be my backpack trip to Southeast Asia, which I had the opportunity to discover during our exploration of the territory for 10 months. I was then able to discover Thailand, Cambodia, Burma, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore and finally Indonesia, with the beautiful island of Sumatra (I had to cancel Sulawesi). When I think back to all these beautiful landscapes, all these roads of the world, all these beautiful places, these beautiful villages, I am a little nostalgic. All these destinations will be evoked with time, because yes, keeping a blog is really time-consuming, if only the days were longer!

Before that, I went to live in the Indian Ocean for a few years. A lot of expatriates move from island to island and I’m one of them for now. On the program of this travel blog, the discovery of the island of Mayotte, my favorite of the area, Reunion Island, my trip to Madagascar, but also my favorites of African countries, Tanzania with a safari photo and Mozambique. For the moment, this destination section mainly focuses on Oceania, Africa and Asia. But I’m really motivated by the idea of making you discover the rest of the world too! Anyway, I hope that this section of the blog will allow you to escape, and why not to take the step, to leave everything and go live elsewhere. That’s what I think is a good idea!

Tell me, what’s your next big trip planned? Where are you going for a walk? What are you dreaming about right now? Swimming on heavenly beaches? Visiting a Japanese temple? Discovering the highest dunes in Namibia? Walking on a pagoda in Venice?

A dream destination?

Whether you are a globe trotter wishing to go on adventures, a father or mother wishing to go on holiday, or simply curious about the world around us, we all want to discover our beautiful planet.

What some consider to be dream destinations are not necessarily so for others. Is a trip to Cuba more interesting or ideal than a region in the depths of Borneo that we have never heard of? Not for sure! Wouldn’t a trip to the cold in Lapland or Greenland to see the Northern Lights be just as interesting? Enchanting?

Why travel like everyone else, after all? Shouldn’t a trip to France be considered as a trip in itself? I think it should. Everyone will have their own vision of things and the more time goes by, the less I am convinced about what could be called a dream destination.

Living on an island in the middle of the Pacific, a little visit to Saint Petersburg, Copenhagen or an Onsen in Japan really makes me envious at times! So yes, on this page, you will find a lot of white sand and coconut palm beaches, because finally, this is where I live and for many people, the definition of paradise!
