This may come as a surprise to some of you: I’m back with an article about hotels in Mayotte. Although it has been a while since I last wrote about this destination, I still receive plenty of questions about it. To be honest, I lived there for four years, and it remains one of my favorite places. Believe me, this island is full of surprises—especially underwater, where it is simply magical. Between diving along the coral reef, relaxing on gorgeous beaches, and setting out on beautiful hikes, there are plenty of things to do and see in Mayotte.
To help you get your bearings, Mayotte is a small island in the Indian Ocean, located between Africa and Madagascar. Although it is a 10-hour flight from Paris, Mayotte is only one hour ahead of mainland France. Of course, our thoughts remain with the people of Mayotte in the aftermath of Cyclone Chido.
If you’re planning a trip, this article should help you find the hotel—or hotels—that best suit your stay. As always with our accommodation guides, our recommendations are based mainly on our own experience on the island.
The best places to stay in Mayotte
Before introducing the best hotels in Mayotte, let’s take a quick look at the main areas where you can stay on the island. The right choice really depends on the pace of your trip and what you’re looking for. Here are the areas I recommend for different types of stays:
- Petite-Terre (Dzaoudzi, Pamandzi): this is a convenient choice for the first or last night of your trip, as it is very close to the airport. Moya Beach is also beautiful, with its cliffs, coves, and, depending on the season, turtles. The atmosphere is peaceful too—perfect for enjoying sunrises and sunsets over the lagoon.
- Mamoudzou (Grande-Terre, east coast): the capital is the most convenient base for exploring the island as a whole. You’ll be close to all the main amenities, including markets and restaurants. I’ll admit, the atmosphere is fairly lively. If you enjoy being in the heart of the action, the city may be a good fit.
- Southeast: Sakouli and Bandrélé: Sakouli Beach is one of the island’s must-see spots, with a family-friendly hotel, a dive center, and water activities such as kayaking and paddleboarding to Bandrélé Islet. The area is livelier, especially on weekends.
- South: N’Gouja (Kani-Kéli): this is the postcard setting many travelers picture. Think golden sand, baobabs, and turquoise water—it is not to be missed. It is also one of the best places on the island for spotting turtles. Simply put on a mask and snorkel and head out to explore this little slice of paradise.
- West and west-central: Sada, Chiconi, and Bouéni place you on the lagoon side of the island, with a more local, authentic atmosphere. You’ll be close to the beaches without being surrounded by tourists. In my opinion, it is a great compromise.
You should now have a clearer idea of what each part of the island has to offer.
The best hotels in Mayotte: budget and mid-range options
You won’t find large hotel complexes or spa resorts in Mayotte—and that is not necessarily a bad thing. The island still feels relatively unspoiled, and most accommodations fall into the budget or mid-range categories. That can also mean better value for money. These hotels generally provide all the essentials for a comfortable stay, including air conditioning, a private bathroom, and a local breakfast. Below, I’ll introduce nine hotels in Mayotte. In my view, these are the island’s main options for travelers.

Hotel Sakouli
Let’s begin with Hotel Sakouli, one of the best-known hotels on the island. It is only 700 meters from the famous Sakouli Beach. A little personal anecdote: Mélanie and I used to go there for breakfast. The sea view was a wonderful way to start the day, especially on weekends. This 3-star property also offers a very comfortable stay.
Facilities include a large pool with open ocean views, two restaurants, a bar, breakfast—which is very good, by the way—a hot tub, and free private parking. The property offers air-conditioned bungalows and suites, each with a balcony and private bathroom. Some even face the sea. I’d say it is an ideal base for exploring southeastern Mayotte while alternating between beach time, relaxation, and hiking.
Residence Vili Vili
In Dzaoudzi, Residence Vili Vili offers cozy apartment-style accommodation close to Faré Beach and the airport, with a shuttle service available if needed. Each air-conditioned apartment includes a living room, sofa bed, fully equipped kitchen, and private bathroom. To top it all off, there is also a terrace overlooking either the lagoon or the town. Guests can also enjoy a continental breakfast, a bar, a shared lounge, and a hot tub.
Guest feedback is consistently positive: the welcome is warm, the property is spotless, and the location is extremely convenient. In short, this is a welcoming place to stay while exploring Mayotte without any hassle. From here, you can easily set out to discover the island each day.
ibis Styles Mayotte Airport
As the name suggests, this hotel is right next to the airport. It offers modern, air-conditioned rooms, some with a balcony and lagoon views. There is no shortage of facilities either, with an outdoor pool, tropical garden, fitness center, terrace, free parking, and room service. The Eden Island restaurant serves international cuisine, along with a very good breakfast.
The location, between the sea and the airport, is especially convenient. I think it is a good option for a layover, an early departure or late arrival, or simply a few relaxing days. In short, ibis Styles Mayotte Airport is a modern hotel that works particularly well when you have a flight to catch.
Hotel Maharajah
Hotel Maharajah is located in the heart of Mamoudzou. From here, you can easily walk to restaurants, shops, and the ferries. The air-conditioned rooms are fairly well equipped, with a sitting area, comfortable bed, safe, TV, and Wi-Fi. All the essentials are covered. There is also a bar, a terrace, and a shared lounge where you can meet other travelers.
Breakfast is available for an additional charge, and you can also dine at the restaurant, which serves Creole and Cajun dishes, Indian cuisine, and French classics. This hotel has several strong points: a central location, a professional team, and comfortable rooms. In other words, it is a straightforward urban option where you’ll have everything you need.

Le Passamainty Lodge
Still in Mamoudzou, Le Passamainty Lodge offers a very different atmosphere. This cozy property, with its pool, garden, and terraces, is only about ten kilometers from the airport. Unlike the previous hotel, it is set slightly away from the city, allowing you to enjoy a more natural setting. The rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated, with views of either the pool or the sea.
For meals, La Table de Jérôme is open from morning to evening, serving à la carte breakfasts and casual dishes such as pizza. The hotel also offers car rentals to make getting around easier. It is a convenient starting point for exploring Mamoudzou and nearby beaches such as Hamaha, Le Faré, and Iloni. Overall, it is a peaceful hideaway for a relaxing stay in Mayotte.
Le Chissioua
For a complete change of scenery, head to Sada and Le Chissioua. The property sits right by the water, between a crystal-clear lagoon and a tropical garden, and is also very close to Tahiti Beach. There are several types of accommodation to choose from, including rooms, sea-view bungalows, and family studios. All are air-conditioned and comfortable, with a balcony and private bathroom, while some also include a kitchenette.
There is plenty more on offer: a pool overlooking the Indian Ocean, a private beach with water sports equipment, terraces that are perfect for watching the sunset, a children’s playground, billiards, and table tennis. The on-site restaurant serves local and French cuisine, along with a continental breakfast. What stands out most is the tropical setting, with a cove for snorkeling, lush gardens, and sweeping views over the Bouéni lagoon. In other words, it is a lovely place to stay as a family or as a couple looking for a romantic getaway.

2.0 Hotel Vanille
Located in Dzaoudzi, 2.0 Hotel Vanille is a simple, practical property close to both Faré Beach and the airport. The air-conditioned rooms include everything you need, with a TV, desk, bathroom, and refrigerator. They are functional and well equipped, and some overlook the town. The hotel also provides a shared lounge, a terrace, free parking, and help organizing excursions.
Guests particularly appreciate the proximity to the beach, restaurants, ferry, and airport, as well as the friendly welcome and practical rooms. It is a straightforward, good-value option for an overnight stop, a short stay, or exploring Petite-Terre on foot.
Le Jardin Maoré
Le Jardin Maoré is the place to stay on N’Gouja Beach. Picture yourself with your feet in the sand and the clear lagoon stretching out in front of you. The property offers sea-facing bungalows and rooms, each with a private bathroom and terrace. This is also a place to truly switch off: there are no televisions, although Wi-Fi is available—don’t worry, haha.
You’ll also find a tropical garden, a bar and restaurant, and free parking. As for activities, snorkeling and kayaking on the lagoon are the main attractions, often with turtles nearby. The location, directly on N’Gouja Beach, is truly beautiful. If you’re looking for a little slice of paradise, Le Jardin Maoré is undoubtedly one of the best hotels for it.
Hamaha Beach Hotel
We’ll finish with Hamaha Beach Hotel. From the moment you arrive, the view over Petite-Terre and Monye Amiri Island makes an impression. The hotel has 18 air-conditioned rooms, all with sea views, and places a strong emphasis on comfort in a lush setting. You should have everything you need here. The Baobab rooms even include a small private pool on the terrace.
The hotel also has direct private access to the beach, an on-site water sports center, and the Hamaha restaurant, where you can end the day with your feet in the sand facing the turquoise water. With its peaceful atmosphere, lush vegetation, and views from every room, it is the kind of place where you’ll want to linger. Following Cyclone Chido, the hotel announced a temporary closure and a reopening date of February 15, 2026. Since availability may be limited, I recommend booking well in advance.
