This will surprise more than a few: I’m back this time with an article about hotels in Mayotte. Even though it’s been a while since I last wrote about this destination, I still receive requests about Mayotte. To tell you the truth, I lived there for 4 years and it was a real favorite of mine. Believe me, it’s an island full of surprises (especially underwater—it’s just magical). Between diving on the coral reef, the gorgeous beaches, and beautiful hikes, there are truly numerous things to do and see in Mayotte.
To help you get your bearings, Mayotte is a small island in the Indian Ocean located right between Africa and the island of Madagascar. Even though Mayotte is a 10-hour flight from Paris, there is actually only a one-hour time difference with France. Of course, our thoughts are with Cyclone Chido and the Mahorans.
If you’re in the midst of planning your trip, I think this article should help you find the hotel(s) that suit you! As always, for our accommodation guides, we rely mainly on our personal experience on site.
The best places to stay in Mayotte
Before introducing the best hotels in Mayotte, I suggest an overview of the places to sleep on the island. It really depends on the pace of your trip and what you want. In any case, here are the areas I recommend according to your expectations:
- Petite-Terre (Dzaoudzi, Pamandzi): it’s a convenient spot for the first or last night of your stay, since it’s very close to the airport. Not to mention that Moya Beach is magnificent, with its cliffs, coves, and turtles, depending on the season. As a bonus, the vibe is calm—perfect for enjoying sunrises and sunsets over the lagoon.
- Mamoudzou (Grande-Terre, east coast): it’s the capital and the most convenient base for exploring the whole island. You’ll be close to all amenities: markets, restaurants, etc. I admit, it’s a “lively” atmosphere. If you like being at the heart of the action, the city should appeal to you.
- Southeast: Sakouli and Bandrélé: Sakouli Beach is one of the island’s must-sees, with a family hotel, a dive club, and water activities like kayak/paddleboard to reach the Bandrélé islet. It’s livelier here, especially on weekends.
- South: N’Gouja (Kani-Kéli): now we’re in a postcard-worthy setting! On the program: golden sand, baobabs, turquoise water—it’s unmissable. It’s also the place where you’re most likely to encounter turtles. Clearly, all you have to do is put on a mask and snorkel to set off and discover this island paradise.
- West and west-central: Sada, Chiconi, Bouéni: you’ll be on the lagoon side, with a more local and authentic vibe. Basically, you’ll be right by the beaches but without the tourists. In my opinion, it’s a good compromise!
There you go, I think you now have a better overview of what each corner of the island has to offer.
Top of the best hotels in Mayotte: between mid-range and entry-level
In Mayotte, you won’t find large hotel complexes or spa resorts—and that’s not a bad thing! The island remains unspoiled and offers entry-level and mid-range hotels. It’s also a good way to enjoy hotels with better value for money. In any case, these hotels offer the essentials for your comfort: air-conditioned room, private bathroom, local breakfast, etc. You’ll see, I plan to present 9 hotels in Mayotte. For me, these are the main establishments for staying on the Mahoran island.

Hotel Sakouli
Let’s start this selection with Hotel Sakouli, which is very well known across the island! It has to be said that it’s only 700 meters from the famous Sakouli Beach. By the way, as a little anecdote, Mélanie and I used to go there for breakfast. The sea view was really superb to start our day, especially on weekends. The establishment is rated 3 stars and offers very good comfort.
As for facilities, you can enjoy a large pool with an unobstructed view of the ocean, two restaurants, a bar, breakfast (very good, by the way!), a hot tub, and free private parking. The property offers air-conditioned bungalows and suites with a balcony and a private bathroom. Some even face the sea! I’d say it’s the ideal place to discover the southeast of Mayotte and alternate between beach, lounging, and hikes!
Residence Vili Vili
In Dzaoudzi, Residence Vili Vili offers you a cozy apartment close to Faré Beach and the airport (a shuttle service is available if needed). The accommodation, called an “apartment,” is air-conditioned, with a living room, a sofa bed, a full kitchen, and a private bathroom. And to top it all off: a terrace overlooking the lagoon or the town. In addition, within the property, you’ll have a continental breakfast, a bar, a shared lounge, and a hot tub.
It’s simple, the feedback is unanimous: the welcome is great, the cleanliness impeccable, and the location more than convenient. In short, this is a warm establishment for exploring Mayotte with no hassle. You can easily explore the whole island by setting out from here every day.
Ibis Styles Mayotte Airport
You can guess it from the name—this hotel is literally next to the airport. Here, they offer modern, air-conditioned rooms with a balcony and a view of the lagoon. In terms of services, there’s plenty: outdoor pool, tropical garden, gym, terrace, free parking, and room service. Not to mention the Eden Island restaurant, which serves international cuisine with a very good breakfast.
The location is really convenient, between the sea and the airport. I think it’s a good option for a layover, an early or late flight, or simply to treat yourself to a few relaxing days. In short, Ibis Styles Mayotte Airport is a modern hotel that’s ideal when you have a plane to catch.
Hotel Maharajah
In Mamoudzou, Hotel Maharajah is in the heart of the city. On site, you can easily walk to restaurants, shops, and the ferries. The rooms are air-conditioned and rather well equipped: sitting area, comfortable bed, safe, TV, Wi-Fi. Everything essential is there for a successful stay. Plus, there’s a bar, a terrace, and a shared lounge to meet and share with other travelers.
You’ll also have the option to have breakfast on site (optional) and even dine at the restaurant to discover Creole/Cajun or Indian cuisine, or keep a taste of home with French dishes. Frankly, this establishment has many strengths: central location, professional team, and room comfort. You get it—it’s a simple, urban address where you’ll want for nothing!

Le Passamainty Lodge
Still in Mamoudzou, here’s Le Passamainty Lodge! This cozy establishment, with a pool, garden, and terraces, is only about ten kilometers from the airport. This lodging contrasts quite a bit with the previous one. Here, you’re more set back from the city to enjoy a natural setting. As for the rooms, they’re spacious and nicely decorated, with views of the pool or the sea.
To dine, “La Table de Jérôme” is open from morning to evening to serve you à la carte breakfasts or snack dishes like pizzas, etc. To make your life easier, the hotel offers a car rental service. In addition, it’s a good starting point for exploring Mamoudzou and its superb beaches, such as Hamaha, Le Faré, and Iloni. In conclusion, it’s a nature cocoon ideal for a getaway in Mayotte.
LE CHISSIOUA
For a change of scene, head to Sada, with Le Chissioua! Here, you’ll arrive in a “feet-in-the-water” setting, between a crystal-clear lagoon and a tropical garden. You’ll also be very close to Tahiti Beach. Regarding accommodations, you definitely have choices: room, bungalow with sea view, family studio. In any case, they’re all air-conditioned and comfortable, with a balcony and a private bathroom; some even have a kitchenette.
That’s not all: you’ll have access to a pool facing the Indian Ocean, a private beach with water sports equipment, terraces (perfect for admiring sunsets), a children’s playground, billiards, and ping-pong. On site, the restaurant serves local and French cuisine, with a continental breakfast. What we take away from this hotel is simply its exotic setting, with a cove for snorkeling, lush gardens, and breathtaking views of the Bouéni lagoon. In other words, it’s a true little slice of paradise to enjoy as a family or as a couple (for a romantic stay)!

2 0 Hotel Vanille
The 2.0 Hotel Vanille, located in Dzaoudzi, is a property that aims to be simple and convenient, very close to the fine-sand Faré Beach and the airport. The rooms are well air-conditioned, with everything you’ll need: TV, desk, bathroom, refrigerator. They’re well equipped, and some overlook the town. As for services, the hotel offers a shared lounge, a terrace, free parking, and the organization of excursions.
In general, the most appreciated points here are the proximity to amenities (beach, restaurants, ferry, airport), the friendly welcome, and the functional rooms for an overnight stop, for example, or a short stay. We agree: it’s a simple lodging, with good value for money, for a layover or to explore Petite-Terre on foot.
Le Jardin Maoré
Le Jardin Maoré is simply the must-visit hotel on N’Gouja Beach! To set the scene, you’ll literally have your feet in the sand, with the transparent lagoon in front of you. They offer bungalows or rooms facing the sea, with a private bathroom and a terrace. However, here, you really disconnect: there is no television, but the Wi-Fi is there (don’t worry, haha).
Not to mention the tropical garden, the bar-restaurant, and free parking. As for activities, you can guess—there’s mainly snorkeling and kayaking to do on the lagoon, surrounded by turtles. Frankly, the location is just magnificent, directly on N’Gouja Beach. If it’s a slice of paradise you’re looking for, Le Jardin Maoré is without a doubt one of the best hotels to offer it!
Hamaha Beach Hotel
We wrap up with Hamaha Beach and the discovery of this charming hotel! From the moment you arrive, you’ll be enchanted by the incredible view of Petite-Terre and Monye Amiri Island. This hotel has a total of 18 air-conditioned rooms, with a breathtaking sea view. It focuses above all on comfort, nestled in a green setting. Clearly, you won’t lack anything here! In fact, the “Baobab” rooms even include a small private pool on the terrace.
We can’t overlook its private, direct access to the beach, its on-site water sports center, and the Hamaha restaurant to end the day in style—feet still in the sand, facing the turquoise water. Between the tranquility, the lush vegetation, and the panorama from every room, it’s a hotel you’ll want to linger in! However, due to Cyclone Chido, the hotel is temporarily closed. But no worries—the reopening is announced for February 15, 2026. It will come quickly, and I recommend booking well in advance. In my opinion, availability will go fast…
If, after these presentations, you’re hesitating between several hotels, that’s not a problem! I simply suggest taking a look at the table below.
