My first article about the island of Barbados and what to do there came out last year, just after our two-week family trip there! And here I am again with a new article about the island, this time to answer the famous question I’ve been asked several times: where to stay in Barbados? If you’ve been following my little Barbados series, you’ll already know that this destination left me with somewhat mixed feelings. Let me explain: I found the island perfect for relaxing and unwinding as a family, but it is also a very developed destination, sometimes a little too much for my taste. That said, there are some beautiful beaches on the west coast, including Paynes Beach, Sandy Lane Beach, Batts Rock Beach, and Mullins Beach. Many travelers only go there for a few days, or even just one day, as a getaway or an excursion.
As for us, we wanted to spend a full two weeks there, so we could really take the time to explore and relax. This longer stay allowed us to discover many different sides of Barbados: beautiful beaches, botanical gardens, impressive caves, and even sargassum seaweed, much to my delight, ironically of course, ahah. As you can see, we made it! And even though Barbados did not become one of my true “favorites,” I still have lovely memories of it with Mélanie and the kids!
Anyway, I won’t go into too much detail here. As you’ve probably guessed, this article is about the best places to stay in Barbados. If you are staying for more than a day, I suggest you read on! I’ve prepared several accommodation lists for you, from luxury hotels to guesthouses, with options for different tastes and budgets!
Why choose Barbados as your holiday destination?
I know Barbados may not mean much to you. It’s true that it is still not very well known among French travelers. To give you an idea, it is a small island in the Caribbean. For us, it was just over a three-hour flight from Guadeloupe! Still pretty quick, ahah! So, the real question is: why choose Barbados as a destination?
I would say there are several reasons. First of all, Barbados is an island of contrasts and surprises. On one side, you have white sandy beaches and calm turquoise water, perfect for relaxing. On the other, you have the rugged cliffs of the Atlantic coast. You get the idea, don’t you? Even though its 430 km² can easily be crossed in a day, it is still a destination with plenty to discover: botanical gardens, including Hunte’s Garden and Andromeda Botanical Garden, caves, rum distilleries… In my opinion, there is still a lot to do! And that’s without even mentioning the friendliness of the locals, which always makes a stay more enjoyable!
The best areas and places to stay in Barbados according to your type of stay
Still with the idea of helping you plan your stay in Barbados, I’d like to tell you a little about the different parts of the island depending on what you’re looking for. Let me explain: if you want quiet beaches and a luxury getaway, head to the west coast, around Holetown or Speightstown! You’ll find postcard-perfect scenery and beautiful hotels there. If you’re looking for a livelier atmosphere, right in the middle of the action, I’d recommend staying in the south, near Saint Lawrence Gap, with its restaurants and bars! And that’s not all. If you want to immerse yourself in nature, the east of the island, around Bathsheba, should really appeal to you. In short, that’s a quick tour of Barbados, but the choice is yours!
