Leica M11 vs M10

The Leica M11, successor to the Leica M10 after seven years, represents a significant step forward in Leica's renowned rangefinder series. This model is equipped with a 60 MP full-frame sensor and benefits from the new Maestro III processor, which ensures accelerated, high-quality image processing. Despite the absence of autofocus and video functions, the M11's classic design and meticulous ergonomics will appeal to photographic purists seeking an authentic manual experience.

The M11 also features an improved 2.33 million-dot touchscreen for enhanced user interaction and visibility. The introduction of a USB-C port modernizes the device, making charging and data transfer easier, while the new Leica BP-SCL7 battery extends autonomy to approximately 700 images.

The device offers a modest 4.5 frames per second burst and a reduced minimum sensitivity of ISO 64 to capture fine details in a variety of lighting conditions. With an electronic shutter of up to 1/16000 second and compatibility with UHS-II SD cards, this model represents a perfect balance between tradition and innovation, meeting the needs of the most demanding photographers.

Launched in January 2017, the Leica M10 is a remarkable edition of the iconic Leica M camera series, which favours a traditional photographic approach with its M mount and full-frame format. This model is characterised by its simplicity, eschewing features such as autofocus and video. Weighing only 660 g, the M10 has been designed to be slim and easy to handle, while retaining Leica's legendary ruggedness. It offers a very limited burst rate of 5 fps and a fairly average quality screen. The camera supports a single UHS-I SD card and its maximum shutter speed is 1/4000s, enough to capture fast-moving action in good light.

Without image stabilisation, the M10 challenges photographers to master their technique, enriching the shooting experience. Despite its limitations, the M10 is highly regarded for its build quality, the precision of its enlarged telemetric viewfinder and its ability to produce images of exceptional quality up to ISO 6400.

In January 2022, the Leica M10 was replaced by the Leica M11, which introduced significant improvements such as a higher resolution sensor, a new processor, an improved battery and better autonomy, marking an evolution while respecting the heritage of the M series. However, the M10 remains the camera of choice for photographic purists, combining performance with timeless design.
