The Nikon Z50 II is the latest addition to Nikon's APS-C camera range, four years after the original Z50. This model retains several key features that contributed to its success, including a 20.9 MP APS-C sensor, an extended ISO range from 100 to 51,200 and a mechanical burst of 11 fps. The maximum shutter speed remains fixed at 1/4000s and the viewfinder retains a resolution of 2.36 million dots. Despite growing demand from users, Nikon has retained the single SD card slot and decided not to integrate internal stabilisation.

Instead, the Z50 II benefits from a number of technological improvements, including the introduction of the Expeed 7 processor, which features advanced deep learning capabilities to optimise autofocus performance and reduce low-light noise, resulting in better image quality. Nikon has also redesigned the camera's ergonomics with an articulated screen, while maintaining resolution at 1.04 million pixels. The addition of UHS-II compatibility improves processing speed, while USB-C 3.0 and a headphone jack expand the possibilities for videographers. Burst rates in electronic mode have also been increased to 15 fps.

In terms of video, the Z50 II now offers 4K at 60p, an improvement on its predecessor's 30p. Weighing in at 550g, it is a little heavier but benefits from longer battery life thanks to the new EN-EL25a battery. Nikon has also improved the user experience by adding intuitive options such as Picture Control to personalise image rendering. All in all, the Z50 II stands out as a compact and versatile hybrid, ideal for photographers and content creators looking for performance.

Launching in October 2019, the Nikon Z50 marks Nikon's entry into the world of APS-C mirrorless cameras. Equipped with a 20.9-megapixel sensor, this model is particularly attractive to newcomers to mirrorless photography, and it excels in landscape and portrait photography thanks to the absence of a low-pass filter, which ensures remarkable image clarity.
