Nikon Z50 II vs Zfc

The Nikon Z50 II is the long-awaited evolution of Nikon's APS-C cameras, four years after the launch of its predecessor, the Z50. This new model retains many of the key features that made the first version such a success, such as a 20.9 MP sensor, an ISO range of 100 to 51,200, a mechanical burst rate of 11 fps and a maximum shutter speed of 1/4000 s. Like its predecessor, the Z50 II is still equipped with a 2.36 million-dot viewfinder and still lacks internal stabilisation. It's also limited to an SD card slot, a choice that Nikon has maintained despite the demands of many users.

The Z50 II does, however, bring some notable new features, notably the integration of the Expeed 7 processor already used in Nikon's professional models. This processor, supported by a deep learning system, improves autofocus performance and low light noise management for sharper, more detailed images. Nikon has also improved ergonomics with an articulated screen, although the resolution remains unchanged at 1.04 megapixels. The addition of UHS-II increases data processing speed, and the USB-C 3.0 port and headphone jack provide greater compatibility for videographers. Electronic burst has also been increased to 15 fps.

Finally, the Z50 II boasts improved video capabilities, with the ability to shoot in 4K at 60p, up from 30p on its predecessor. This slightly larger camera, weighing in at 550g, also benefits from improved battery life thanks to the new EN-EL25a battery. Nikon has taken great care to improve the user experience, with a grip that's as comfortable as ever and intuitive functions such as Picture Control for image styling. The Nikon Zfc, due out in summer 2021, is Nikon's second APS-C mirrorless camera to use the Z-mount. Sharing its 20.9-megapixel sensor with the Nikon Z50, this model is clearly distinguished by its vintage aesthetic, reminiscent of Nikon's iconic FM and FE series film SLRs. Aimed at young vloggers and retro style enthusiasts, this meticulous design combines the charm of the old with the performance of the new.

This compact body offers robust technical specifications such as ISO sensitivity up to 51200 and a burst rate of 11 fps in RAW, ideal for capturing fleeting moments with precision. When it comes to video, the Zfc also shines with the ability to record in 4K UHD at 30fps and Full HD at 120fps, not to mention a fully articulated LCD screen perfect for complex shots and selfies.

While the Zfc borrows much from the Z50, it stands out for notable additions such as improved real-time autofocus tracking, especially for eyes in video mode, and dedicated dials that enhance its touch-sensitive ergonomics. However, like its predecessor, it lacks sensor stabilization and has a single UHS-I SD card slot. Despite these limitations, the Nikon ZFC positions itself as the camera of choice for those who value form as much as function, offering excellent value for money for portrait and landscape photographers, as well as vloggers looking for a tool that is both aesthetically pleasing and powerful.
