List of Nikon Z lenses
This page lists all the lenses adapted for the Nikon Z mount. This includes the brand’s lenses but also the most popular third-party brands. This page will be updated as new releases come out. So, don’t hesitate to tell me if you think a lens should be on this page.
The Nikon Z mount appeared when the first Nikon mirrorless camera bodies, such as the Z6 and Z7, were released in July 2018, and the Nikon Z50, in October 2019. Through the FTZ adaptor ring (see below), you can use Nikon F lenses on Nikon mirrorless camera bodies. If you’re still hesitating, I mention in this article the best mirrorless cameras of the moment. At the end of 2020, the new Nikon Z6II and Z7II cameras were released. As a reminder, all Nikon Z cameras have an in-body image stabilization to significantly reduce vibrations during shooting (except the Nikon Z50 / APS-C sensor).
Even if the choice is still limited, I present to you all the lenses for full frame and APS-C sensor for this Z-mount.
As a reminder, you can sort the tables below according to the characteristics you are interested in by simply clicking on the desired column, such as maximum aperture or focal length.
Choosing a lens is never easy. That’s why, in several parts of this page, you will find clickable drop-down areas in which I try my best to guide you in your choices and purchases. I wish you great thinking and good choices!

- Addition of the TTArtisans 11mm ED f/2.8 Fisheye Z, a brand new Fisheye lens for full frame Nikon Z camera
Nikon Z Lenses
As for the Canon RF range, the range of Nikon Z is still very limited, even if we can easily guess that Nikon will decide to catch up. All lenses in the Z series have autofocus. Regarding your choice of lenses, you will find fixed focal length lenses (prime lenses) and zoom lenses, some with or without optical stabilization (noted VR lens in the tables below).
Nikon Z lenses for full-frame bodies
Here are the Nikon Z lenses. I also decided to include the lenses that have been announced in the road-map 2021 by Nikon, meaning the lenses that are likely to be released in 2021.
As for the Canon RF lenses, I decided to break down the list of existing lenses according to the different focal lengths, into four categories:
- Wide angle (WA) and ultra wide angle (UWA) lenses: for focal lengths less than 20mm (UWA) and focal lengths from 20mm to 35mm (WA),
- Lenses with standard focal lengths: focal lengths from 35mm to 75mm,
- Telephoto lenses: focal lengths beyond 75mm,
- Macro lenses: dedicated to macro photography (there is no lenses available from Nikon Z-mount yet)
Wide angle and Ultra-wide angle Nikon Z lenses

For wildlife photography, architecture or indoor photography when there is a lack of distance, a very short focal length is generally used, allowing a very wide angle of view. Wide-angle and ultra-wide angle lenses make this possible. The range of Nikon Z lenses is still not very large for the moment but offers today 2 wide-angle zooms and two fixed focal lengths. However, you should know that the prices remain high, beyond 1000€ for the 4 lenses.
If you are looking for a versatile lens that can offer a very wide framing, there are today two dedicated lenses: the Nikon Z 14-24mm f/2.8 and the Nikon Z 14-30mm f/4 S. These two lenses offer an almost similar field of view, even though the focal range of the 14-30mm seems to me more flexible in reality, to capture something else. When it comes to choosing between the two, your budget will probably the deciding factor. The 14-30mm offers a constant aperture at f/4, while the 14-24mm offers a larger aperture (at f/2.8) that will help in low light conditions for example. The image quality of 14-24mm is known to be better than the one of 14-30mm, which remains however of a very high level. User feedback on the 14-30mm is excellent. It is worth noting that 14-30mm is more than half the price of the 14-24mm. Finally, the preferential use of small apertures in landscapes/architecture (example f/8 to f/11 and often on tripods) leads me to seriously consider 14-30mm instead of 14-24mm. To conclude on the differences, the 14-30mm is lighter and allows the use of classic 82mm screw-in filters (it will cost you less).
Finally, two fixed focal length lenses are also available: the Nikon Z 20mm f/1.8 S and the Nikon Z 24mm f/1.8 S. It is not really the same focal length range, but the prices remain more or less the same between the two lenses (about 200€ difference). Both accept the use of screw-on filters and are not stabilized. Overall, according to the tests, the 20mm offers an exceptional image quality, beyond the 24mm which is still very good.
For the moment, the choice at Nikon is therefore limited. If you have a smaller budget, you will have to consider the Samyang MF 14mm f/2.8 Nikon Z, wide angles from Laowa or the 20mm from Viltrox.

For a small inventory of lenses (fixed focal length and/or zoom) with Z-mount standard focal lengths, here is what you should keep in mind.
- The Nikon Z 24-50mm f/4-6.3 is an entry level lens sold mainly with the Nikon Z5. It is a lens to start with small maximum apertures. You can also buy the same body with the Nikon Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR (for a bit more money though), but you get a longer focal length range, up to 200mm. This is an ideal all-round lens for beginners who don’t want to change lenses, for example when traveling. You can shoot landscapes (24mm is already a wide angle in full frame), close-up or environmental portraits, and even isolate details. However, the maximum aperture at 200mm at f/6.3 will limit you quite a bit for creating beautiful background blurs. Note that the lens is also stabilized.
- If you choose to go up in range (on a Z6 or a Z6 II for example), you will have the option to get the Nikon Z 24-70mm f/4 S as a kit lens. The lens, although not as good as the f/2.8 version, delivers an exceptional image quality. If you feel the need for a larger aperture, you can choose the Nikon Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S which is obviously a very high-end lens. Given its recent release at Nikon, the price is for the moment very high (2000€) and clearly, it is not a lens for everyone !
- For the rest, and especially for those wanting to practice street and portrait photography, you will find two fixed wide-aperture lenses: the Nikon Z 35mm f/1.8 S and the Nikon Z 50mm f/1.8 S. The 50mm is known to be really good, and even if the price remain higher than the DSLR version, it is still a lens that everyone should have in their camera bag for everyday photography. There is also an f/1.2 version of the 50mm (reserved for professionals I would say given the price) and a 58mm f/0.95, literally out of price for ordinary people.

For those looking for a long focal length, the choice in the Nikon Z mount is still very limited at the time of writing this page. Nikon has obviously released an excellent prime lens, the Nikon Z 85mm f/1.8 S, perfect for portrait photography (outdoors and indoors if you have some distance) and provides to get a nice background blur. Finally, for a wider photographic practice, both for travel (portraits, landscape details) as for everyday life and to highlight a subject, Nikon has released its first large-aperture stabilized zoom, the Nikon Z 70-200mm f/2.8 S VR. The first feedback obviously mentions a lens of exceptional quality (it’s a Pro lens) at a price that remains high for the time being. It will be too short mostly for wildlife photography but longer focal length lenses (100-400mm and 200-600mm) are expected in 2021 in the Z-mount. You will have to be patient because it is today the longest existing focal length on the Nikon Z-mount.
Nikon Z macro lenses
For fans of close-up photography and macro, you will have to wait for the release of the two macro Z lenses announced for 2021 (mentioned in the table below). For the moment, Laowa has two nice references, the 25mm f/2.8 2.5-5X Ultra Macro and the 100mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO (check the table bellow). For those who want to try macro photography but on a smaller budget, you will have to consider the Meike 85mm f/2.8 Macro or the 7Artisans 60mm f/2.8 Macro Z (manual focus lenses mentioned in the tables below).

Nikon Z lenses for APS-C cameras
For Nikon Z APS-C mirrorless cameras, there are very few lenses available at the moment. To my knowledge, there are only two Nikon lenses at the time of writing this article (two zooms but no fixed focal length announced for the moment). You should know that there is a telephoto zoom lens designed for APS-C sensor, the Nikkor Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR, which is a very good option for people looking for an affordable and compact stabilized lens, allowing them to zoom further. The other lens available (the Nikkor Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR) is simply the entry-level lens, sold in kit form with the Z50.
Others have been announced for 2021. There are also a few manual focus alternatives mentioned below. At the time of writing this article, there is only one Nikon mirrorless APS-C camera, the Nikon Z50.
Type of lens | Brand | Lens | Focal length | Max. aperture | Ø filter | Stab. | Autofocus | Best Price |

Pergear specifies for its lenses that they can be used on the Z6, Z6II, Z7 and Z7II cameras but the camera format must be changed to APS-C (these are lenses initially designed for the APS-C, therefore for the Z50).
Adapter rings for the Nikon Z-mount
There is currently only one adapter ring available from Nikon to fit your Nikon F-DSLR lenses on your Nikon Z cameras: the FTZ adapter ring (Check on Amazon). According to early feedback, the original unstabilized F-mount lenses (therefore non-VR) benefit now from the stabilization integrated into the Z6 or Z7 sensor. It is obviously a way for all those equipped with Nikon F-mount to enjoy their old lenses!
For those who also own a Canon DSLR body, there is an adaptor ring which apparently works very well if you want to mount Canon EF lenses on a Nikon Z body. This is the Fringer EF-NZ ring.
Teleconverters for the Nikon Z-mount
Nikon now features two focal length teleconverters. Knowing that at the time of writing this article, both digital extenders can only be used on the Nikon Z 70-200mm f/2.8 S VR. These are:
- The Nikon Teleconverter Z TC 2X, which enables to double the focal length of the lens and to get a focal length equivalent to a 140-400mm on full frame,
- The Nikon Teleconverter Z TC 1.4X, allowing to increase the focal length by 40%.
According to the information collected and the first user feedback, you obviously can still use the autofocus, but you have to remember that you lose 2 stops of light (as when using any other teleconverters). Once mounted, the extender X2 will offer a f/5.6 maximum aperture. You also keep the possibility to use all the AF points of your camera.
These teleconverters are an interesting way to increase your focal length, especially up to 400mm. For now, it is a solution which can be considered as long as Nikon does not release its Nikon Z 100-400mm S, theoretically announced for 2021. Stay tuned !
Third-party brand lenses for Nikon Z
The recent arrival of Nikon in the mirrorless camera market has resulted in few third-party brands currently offering lenses for the Nikon Z-mount, as these have not yet given the possibility for regular third-party brands (Sigma/Tamron) to be able to produce lenses. For those who wonder, there are currently no Sigma or Tamron lenses for the Nikon Z-mount at the time of writing this page.
However, Sigma already specified in 2018 that all recent lenses from the brand work very well on Full Frame Z-mount cameras with the FTZ adapter ring. However, several clarifications were made by Sigma, including the fact that the old manual focus lenses will work on the z-mount always in manual focus, or the fact that the lenses produced before November 2013 will not work on this mount. In addition, it has been pointed out that the stabilization (noted “OS” at Sigma) will only work on the Nikon z-mount if the OS of the lens and the body are activated simultaneously. So for now, we will have to wait for Sigma to produce lenses for Nikon Z.
Tamron on its side recently clarified its interest in producing Tamron lenses for the Z-mount. For the moment, owners of Tamron DSLR lenses (Di and Di II type) will have to use the FTZ adapter ring. Tamron also specifies on this page all the lenses that can be used on Nikon Full Frame Z bodies (Z50, Z6 and Z7) with the FTZ ring.
In short, here is the list of third-party brands currently offering lenses for the Nikon z-mount. To my knowledge, there are no 3rd-party brands that offer lenses with auto focus. This has just changed in December 2020 with the release of the new Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 STM ED IF Z, the first third-party lens offering an autofocus for Nikon Z cameras (see below).
Samyang / Rokinon lenses for Nikon Z
Since the release of the first Nikon mirrorless cameras, Samyang / Rokinon have only released to my knowledge two manual focus lenses, a 14mm (ultra wide angle) and an 85mm (see below). For landscape photography, and knowing that manual focus isn’t a problem in this field, the 14mm is a good alternative to the still few and expensive Nikon wide-angle lenses. Regarding the Rokinon 85mm, and if you have a limited budget, it’s also a great solution for photographers who want to shoot portraits for example (for half the price of the Nikon f/1.8 S) and get a very shallow depth of field.
LAOWA lenses for Nikon Z
As for the Canon RF mount, Laowa offers a set of lenses renowned for their quality for the Nikon Z mount. You have access in particular to beautiful wide-angle lenses and two lenses to go beyond the 1:1 reproduction ratio for macro photography. All these lenses are manual focus.

Meike lenses for Nikon Z
As far as I know, Meike has for the moment decided to produce two lenses for the Nikon Z mount. More details are given in the table below.
Viltrox lenses for Nikon Z
Viltrox has released only one manual focus lens for the Nikon Z mount at the time of writing. This is a lens to consider, for those who are looking for a fixed wide-angle focal length, knowing that the other alternative remains the Nikon Z 20mm f/1.8 S, four times more expensive (but obviously much sharper). However tests of this 20mm Viltrox show a very good image quality in the center, but the edges are clearly weaker.
I’m updating this paragraph because Viltrox has just released the first third-party lens offering an autofocus for Nikon Z bodies, the 85mm f/1.8 STM IF ED Z. Viltrox strikes hard and tries to compete with Nikon and their 85mm f/1.8, which costs twice the price for the moment (the Viltrox is available at only 400$). To be considered if you are on a budget and looking for a perfect long focal length for portraits.
7Artisans lenses for Nikon Z
7Artisans is a Chinese company offering cheap camera lenses. The quality and sharpness are not known to be excellent, but the price is generally very attractive. To be considered for people with a small budget for example and who want to try on a specific focal length.
TTArtisan lenses for Nikon Z
TTArtisan is a Chinese new brand offering for now only this lens for the Z mount: the 11mm f/2.8 Fisheye lens. Also available for Canon R, Sony FE, Sigma-Leica L, and Leica-M mount, this lens offers a super wide angle of view of 180° and a strong distortion for capturing very dynamic/striking pictures. There is an unremovable petal-type lens hood, and you won’t be able to add screw-in filter. From what I read, this seems like a pretty good manual focus lens at a great price. As I’m writing this page (February 2021), this is the only Fisheye lens available for the Z mount.
Type of lens | Lens | Focal length | Max. aperture | Ø filter | Stabilization | Autofocus | Best Price |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Fisheye | TTArtisans 11mm ED f/2.8 Fisheye Z | 11mm | f/2.8 | - | NO | NO | Amazon |
Zhong Yi lenses for Nikon Z
Zhong Yi currently offers two attractive large-aperture lenses that will work very well for photographing tight or environmental portraits. With this type of lens you can reduce the depth of field considerably and offer beautiful background blur (bokeh). The large aperture will also make it easy to take pictures in low light and very low light conditions. The optical quality of these lenses is very good. Only hiccup, the prices remain very high.
Kipon lenses for Nikon Z
Type of lens | Lens | Focal length | Max. aperture | Ø filter | Stabilization | Autofocus | Best Price |

If you’re not sure which camera brand is right for you, I’ve also created a page listing all the Canon RF lenses, for full-frame mirrorless cameras.
