Nikon Z5 vs Z50 II

The Nikon Z5, to be released in July 2020, is a 24.3-megapixel full-format mirrorless camera. Designed as a more affordable alternative in Nikon's full-frame mirrorless camera lineup, it's perfect for beginners, enthusiasts looking for a high-performance second body, and those who want to get started with photography with a high-quality hybrid. It incorporates many of the features of the award-winning Z6 and Z7 models, while offering an excellent price/performance ratio.

The viewfinder has the same resolution of 2.36 million dots and the camera still lacks stabilisation, a deliberate choice by Nikon in favour of compactness.

However, the Z50 II incorporates a number of significant new features, including the powerful Expeed 7 processor, which uses artificial intelligence to improve autofocus management and reduce noise in low-light conditions, guaranteeing improved image quality. The articulated screen offers greater shooting flexibility, while maintaining a resolution of 1.04 megapixels. UHS-II support means faster processing speeds, while USB-C 3.0 ports and a headphone jack add to videographers' options. Electronic Burst mode now achieves 15 fps.

The Z50 II also boasts video advances, with the ability to record in 4K at 60p, up from 30p. Weighing in at 550g, the camera is a little heavier, but benefits from the new EN-EL25a battery for optimised battery life. With intuitive features such as Picture Control, which allows you to customise image styles, the Z50 II is the hybrid of choice for creative professionals looking for performance and versatility.
