In March 2025, four years after the last Sigma FP L camera, Sigma unveils the Sigma BF, a bold new addition to the world of today's mirrorless cameras. This full-format 24.6 MP camera has a monoblock construction, carved from a single block of aluminium. It is very light at only 446g, has a maximum electronic speed of 1/25,600 and a fairly average burst speed of 8fps with a buffer of 350 RAW files. The Sigma BF has also opted for a minimalist approach, dispensing with memory card slots in favour of a 230 GB internal memory capable of storing more than 14,000 JPEG files or 4,300 uncompressed RAW images, all backed up by the new BP-81 battery.

The camera also boasts a completely redesigned user interface, where the main settings (shutter speed, aperture, ISO, exposure compensation and colour mode) can be found on a fixed 2.1 megapixel, 8 cm diagonal touch screen. With just three buttons, a dial and a shutter release button, the interface makes shooting very intuitive, especially with the thirteen colour modes that offer a wide range of creative possibilities. A key element that enhances the Sigma BF's originality is its advanced autofocus system: a mirrorless camera system that combines phase and contrast detection using the latest generation of algorithms. Detection of objects, faces and even animals such as dogs and cats is said to be very good.

Finally, the Sigma BF extends its capabilities to video, offering 6K recording at 30 fps with L-log support, benefiting from the wide dynamic range of the full-frame sensor, although stabilisation is electronic only. With interesting technical features and ergonomics redesigned to bring the photographer closer to the moment, this camera is a unique proposition in today's mirrorless world. Launched in March 2021, almost two years after the Sigma FP, the Sigma FP L retains most of the features of its predecessor, but with one major difference: an impressive 61 MP. Despite this advance, the body retains the same compact dimensions and the same weight of 427g. Battery life has been slightly reduced, however, to around 240 shots per charge. In terms of performance, the burst rate has also been adjusted to 10 fps in mechanical mode and 12 fps in electronic mode, a logical consequence of the increase in sensor resolution.

The Sigma FP L has the same 2.1 megapixel screen, but benefits from faster autofocus thanks to phase-detection autofocus, optimised for photography. This model is equipped with an exclusive electronic shutter, a rare feature for cameras in this category. It also includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, which improves audio capabilities for videographers.

Priced higher than the FP, the Sigma FP L is positioned as a premium choice for demanding photographers and videographers. It allows photo and video recording to SSDs via its USB-C port, offering unrivalled flexibility. Although the startup is a little slow and the memory card is accessed from the bottom, its many video features, such as 4K UHD recording at 30fps, make it a complete and versatile camera for the most ambitious content creators.
