L-mount lenses: the full list

After discussing and detailing all the lenses available for the main and best-known brands, I’m now moving on to what I consider more niche systems. Leica is a German brand known for producing high-quality cameras and lenses, often at equally high prices.

On this page, I’ll introduce you to all L-mount lenses available for the mount developed by Leica Camera AG. The first camera to use the L-mount was the Leica T, released in April 2014. This 16.5 MP camera is no longer in production. In 2015, the Leica SL became the brand’s first full-frame camera to use this mount.

On September 25, 2018, Leica Camera AG, Panasonic and Sigma formed the L-Mount Alliance to produce compatible cameras and lenses.

For reference, the L-mount exists in two versions:

• The SL version: this refers to lenses designed for full-frame cameras. These lenses work perfectly well on APS-C cameras, with the usual 1.5x crop factor,
• The T and TL versions: these lenses are designed for APS-C L-mount cameras. They can be mounted on a full-frame camera, but the camera will automatically switch to APS-C mode to adjust the image area.

All the tables on this page can be sorted according to the characteristics you are interested in, such as maximum aperture, filter size or focal length. The tables below should be up to date, unless we have missed something, and list all currently available L-mount lenses.

In 2018, Sigma, Panasonic and Leica joined forces to produce cameras and lenses for the L-mount, Leica’s native mount. Together, the three brands now offer a wide range of autofocus lenses. If you are looking for the best L-mount lenses, you should find plenty of useful options on this page. In case you were wondering, there are currently no Tamron lenses available for the L-mount. To help with your research, we have also written an article about the best Sigma lenses for Sony E-mount. Although the article is not specifically about L-mount lenses, many of the Sigma lenses featured are also available for the L-mount. You can therefore use the same recommendations if you are looking for the best Sigma lenses for the L-mount. At the beginning of that article, I also provide direct links to the L-mount versions.

To make the page easier to navigate, I have separated autofocus lenses from manual focus lenses.

Below, you will find all the manufacturers currently offering autofocus lenses for full-frame L-mount cameras:

• Leica L lenses
• Sigma L lenses
• Panasonic L lenses

The table below lists all Leica full-frame lenses designed for the L-mount. The “SL” designation indicates that a Leica lens is intended for full-frame use. These lenses are known for their exceptionally high quality, although they are also relatively expensive. The range includes wide-angle zooms, standard focal lengths and compact telephoto lenses. The Leica APO-Vario-Elmarit-SL 90-280mm f/2.8-4, for example, is an excellent-performing L-mount telephoto zoom.

Sigma offers two main types of lenses for the L-mount: those marked “DG DN” and those marked “DG”. As a reminder, the acronym “DG” indicates that a lens is designed for full-frame cameras, although it can also be used on APS-C cameras. This should not be confused with “DC DN” lenses, which are designed exclusively for APS-C cameras. The acronym “OS” indicates that a lens includes optical image stabilization.

Here are the three types of Sigma lenses available for the L-mount:

• Sigma DG DN L-mount lenses
• Sigma DG HSM L-mount lenses
• SIGMA DG DN Contemporary I Series L-mount lenses

Here is the complete range of Sigma DG DN lenses specifically designed for the L-mount. These lenses are built for full-frame mirrorless cameras and should be clearly distinguished from “DC DN” lenses, which are intended for APS-C mirrorless cameras. Sigma offers a broad selection, with ultra-wide-angle primes and zooms, standard focal lengths, macro lenses and even high-quality super-telephoto lenses. Among the most notable options, all of which have received excellent feedback, are the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art standard zoom, the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN Art and the Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS Contemporary super-telephoto zoom.

Here are the Sigma DG lenses designed for the L-mount, all released between 2018 and 2019. Originally developed for DSLR cameras, these lenses were later adapted for full-frame mirrorless cameras. However, they are heavier and bulkier than Sigma DG DN and DG DN I Series lenses, which were designed specifically for mirrorless systems. In general, I would recommend choosing one of the lighter mirrorless-specific ranges if you are looking for a Sigma lens for your camera. This series contains only prime lenses, ranging from ultra-wide-angle (14mm) and wide-angle focal lengths (20mm to 24mm) to standard focal lengths (35mm to 50mm) and short telephoto lenses. There is also a macro lens in the range. Most of these lenses feature a very wide maximum aperture of f/1.4.

Sigma’s DG DN I Series stands out for its carefully crafted lenses, all featuring a manual aperture ring, a magnetic lens cap and an all-metal construction. Sigma regularly adds appealing new options to this range, and user feedback is overwhelmingly positive. The current line-up includes a high-quality 17mm wide-angle prime, ideal for landscape photography, as well as slightly longer wide-angle primes ranging from 20mm to 24mm. It also includes more standard focal lengths, from 35mm to less conventional options such as 45mm and 65mm.

Panasonic introduced its L-mount lenses in 2018 as part of the Lumix S camera system. The range includes both zoom lenses and prime lenses designed for interchangeable-lens cameras using the L-mount, which is shared by Leica, Sigma and Panasonic.

The Lumix S series includes several excellent lenses. Two particularly appealing options are the Panasonic Lumix S 18mm f/1.8 L and the Panasonic 70-300mm telephoto zoom. The 18mm prime is well suited to low-light photography and can create some depth-of-field separation, although the effect is naturally less pronounced with such a wide-angle lens. Its wide field of view makes it a strong choice for landscapes and architectural photography. The 70-300mm zoom is ideal for photographing distant subjects while maintaining excellent image quality and sharpness. Both are excellent options for photographers using Lumix S cameras. Several affordable lenses are also worth mentioning, including the 35mm f/1.8, 50mm f/1.8 and 85mm f/1.8.

Panasonic later introduced lenses labelled “PRO”, featuring very high-quality optics. These include a wide-angle zoom (16-35mm), a classic standard zoom (Panasonic Lumix S PRO 24-70mm f/2.8 L), a fast prime lens (Panasonic Lumix S 50mm f/1.4 Pro L) and two classic telephoto zooms: the Panasonic Lumix S PRO 70-200mm f/2.8 O.I.S. L and its f/4 counterpart.

As a reminder, Panasonic O.I.S lenses feature built-in optical image stabilization, which helps reduce camera shake and produce sharper images by compensating for camera movement.

Two teleconverters are available for Panasonic’s 70-200mm lenses, allowing you to extend their focal range:

• Panasonic DMW-S TC20 Lumix S – Doubles the focal length
• Panasonic DMW-S TC14 Lumix S – Increases the focal length by 1.4x

Samyang was the first third-party brand to offer an autofocus lens for the L-mount.

Several third-party brands offer manual focus lenses for full-frame L-mount cameras. Here is the list of the main brands:

• Laowa L lenses
• 7Artisans L lenses
• Kipon L lenses
• Lensbaby L lenses
• Meyer-Optik Gorlitz Lydith lenses
• TTArtisan L lenses
• Meike L lenses
• NiSi L lenses

Venus Laowa offers a wide range of lenses for the L-mount. All of them are manual focus and lack image stabilization. The line-up mainly consists of prime lenses, with a few ultra-wide-angle zooms such as the 10-18mm and 12-24mm. Laowa covers everything from fisheye (9mm) to ultra-wide-angle and wide-angle lenses ranging from 10mm to 24mm. The brand also offers several tilt-shift lenses, including 15mm and 20mm options. Drawing on its expertise in macro photography, Laowa offers several close-up lenses, from the unusual 15mm macro and distinctive 24mm probe lens to ultra-macro options such as the 25mm, as well as more conventional focal lengths like 85mm, 90mm and the excellent 100mm.

Among these lenses, the Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2X Ultra Macro APO has the strongest reputation, offering excellent 2:1 macro capability. Reviews of the Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro are also outstanding, particularly because of its genuinely unusual wide-angle macro perspective. For enthusiasts, the 25mm macro offers up to 5x magnification, although a tripod is essential, while the 24mm Probe can capture extraordinary images in places that are usually difficult to access. For wide architectural or landscape perspectives, the Laowa 15mm f/2 FE Zero-D and Laowa 12mm f/2.8 Zero-D have also received excellent feedback.

If you enjoy macro photography and are looking for an L-mount macro lens, these Laowa lenses are well worth considering. Some offer magnification ratios beyond 1:1, including the 24mm, 25mm and 65mm, while others can also work well for portraits, such as the Laowa 100mm. Many macro photographers use a tripod to achieve sharper images and are not particularly concerned about the lack of autofocus.

7Artisans, a well-known Chinese brand specialising in affordable lenses, offers a selection for full-frame L-mount cameras. The 7Artisans 10mm f/2.8 Fisheye L, in particular, has built a positive reputation for its performance. The range also includes a 15mm wide-angle prime and several more standard focal lengths, including two 35mm lenses, one of which is a pancake model. There is also a classic 50mm lens with a very wide f/1.05 aperture, which has received strong reviews for the quality of its background blur.

Kipon offers a selection of lenses for full-frame L-mount cameras, although they are quite rare and difficult to find in France. These are all prime lenses, sharing features such as a maximum aperture of f/2.4, a 49mm filter thread and no autofocus or image stabilization. The range extends from wide-angle (24mm) to short telephoto (90mm).

Lensbaby is well known for its creative lenses, which allow photographers to produce distinctive visual effects. The brand offers features such as selective focus, unusual bokeh and the Optic Swap system. With lenses available for a wide variety of mounts, Lensbaby is particularly appealing for artistic photography, portraiture and experimental work. Here is the list of Lensbaby lenses available for the L-mount.

Like Lensbaby lenses, Meyer-Optik Gorlitz Lydith lenses are not especially easy to find. These L-mount lenses cover focal lengths ranging from standard (30mm) to telephoto (100mm), and all use manual focus without image stabilization.

TTArtisan is a third-party Chinese brand offering a compact range of full-frame L-mount lenses. The line-up includes several manual focus lenses designed for full-frame cameras. One notable option is the TTArtisan 11mm f/2.8 L, which has earned an excellent reputation, particularly for landscape photography, and is reasonably priced at under €300. The range includes a fisheye lens, the 11mm, with a 180° angle of view, as well as a 21mm wide-angle lens with a very wide f/1.5 aperture, ideal for low-light photography and creating shallow depth of field. The brand also offers standard 50mm lenses with apertures ranging from f/1.4 to f/1.2, making them well suited to portrait photography. More specialised options include a 50mm tilt-shift lens and a recent 500mm super-telephoto lens.

Meike offers a relatively small selection of lenses for the L-mount, at least to my knowledge. Two 50mm standard lenses are particularly worth mentioning. One features a very wide f/1.2 aperture, while the other uses a more conventional f/1.7 aperture. This focal length is especially well suited to portrait photography, allowing you to create attractive background blur and separate your subject from the background.

NiSi currently offers only one full-frame mirrorless lens for the L-mount: the NiSi 15mm f/4 Sunstar ASPH L. This ultra-wide-angle prime has a good reputation, particularly considering its affordable price of less than $500.

Below, you will find a list of L-mount lenses for APS-C cameras. Note that Panasonic does not currently offer an APS-C L-mount camera.

As mentioned above, Leica has released several APS-C mirrorless cameras, including the Leica TL2 and Leica CL. In this section, you will find all autofocus and manual focus lenses available for these APS-C L-mount cameras.

As with the full-frame section, I have separated autofocus lenses from manual focus lenses.

Only two manufacturers currently produce autofocus lenses for APS-C L-mount cameras:

• Leica lenses for APS-C L-mount
• Sigma lenses for APS-C L mount

Leica offers several APS-C lenses for the L-mount. The “T” and “TL” designations indicate compatibility with APS-C sensors. The range includes an 11-23mm wide-angle zoom, standard focal lengths such as 18mm, 18-56mm, 23mm and 35mm, as well as a 55-135mm zoom for longer focal lengths. A macro lens is also available. However, these lenses can be quite difficult to find through conventional retailers.

Sigma now offers a range of autofocus lenses for APS-C L-mount cameras. The selection remains relatively limited for now, with focal lengths ranging from ultra-wide-angle (10mm) to short telephoto (56mm). For wide perspectives such as landscapes, the Sigma 10-18mm ultra-wide-angle zoom is an excellent option. For greater versatility, the Sigma 18-50mm covers a useful everyday range. The line-up also includes four fast f/1.4 prime lenses, ideal for low-light conditions. These include the 16mm, a wide-angle prime well suited to landscapes and interiors, as well as the 23mm, 30mm and 56mm, all with f/1.4 apertures and well suited to street photography, environmental portraits and tighter compositions with strong background blur. These lenses carry the “DC DN” designation, indicating compatibility with APS-C L-mount cameras. None of them includes image stabilization.
