Hello and welcome to this new article, which will help you discover a little more about Quebec, my adopted home. I’ve been living in Montreal for five and a half years now, and I’ve had the opportunity to travel extensively around Quebec, so if this is your first visit to the blog, you’re in for a treat. If this is your first visit, I suggest starting with our Montreal guide. It will give you a helpful overview of the places to visit and things to do in this wonderful city.
Today, I’d like to introduce you to a true outdoor playground less than two hours from Montreal by car: the Mont-Tremblant region. In the heart of Quebec’s Laurentians, it offers a wonderful combination of natural beauty, adventure, and picturesque charm.
The Mont-Tremblant region is one of the most popular destinations for both local and international visitors, whether you’re a winter sports fan, an outdoor enthusiast, or simply looking for a relaxing getaway in winter or summer. From majestic snow-covered peaks to the bustle of the lively village, this article will guide you through the must-do activities in Mont-Tremblant and introduce you to a region where nature meets culture in the heart of Quebec’s Laurentians.
I usually check the DiscoverCars website to compare car rental deals.
Even though temperatures are “a bit cooler” than in Europe—to put it mildly—Quebecers still get outside and enjoy nature in winter. As you can imagine, you’ll still need proper technical clothing to keep warm outdoors. But what could be more invigorating than fresh snow beneath a mostly blue sky? It is a wonderful setting for a ski vacation.
When winter arrives in the Mont-Tremblant region, it brings a special atmosphere with it. There are plenty of activities for snow lovers and thrill seekers, and skiing and snowboarding are among the hallmarks of the Mont-Tremblant region. In December 2023, Mont-Tremblant hosted two women’s giant slalom races on the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup circuit. Skiers and snowboarders will find a large and varied ski area suited to beginners and experts alike. They can race down the snowy slopes while enjoying beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and the village of Mont-Tremblant.
The surrounding natural areas also make it easy to try other winter sports. You can try sledding or snow tubing—one of my favorite winter activities—as well as snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, Nordic skiing, or fat biking.
During our trip to Canada, we decided to rent all our winter clothing locally—and we didn’t regret it.

As always, we’re happy to share a few winter ideas from our partner Manawa If you’re visiting the Mont-Tremblant area, here are some of the winter activities you can book:
- Go snowmobiling! To learn more about this activity, I invite you to read the following article in which I describe my own snowmobile experience. It really is an exciting activity and a great way to experience the region from a completely different perspective.
If you’re looking for other snowmobiling spots in Quebec, take a look at our detailed article!
- Go dog sledding: it’s one of Quebec’s most iconic winter activities. I also invite you to read our article dedicated to dog sledding.
Since then, we’ve had the opportunity to go to Quebec in the middle of winter and try dog sledding ourselves near Mont-Tremblant. It was magical!
- And for those who don’t mind the cold, here’s another activity that will give you a thrill: ice climbing. If you’re afraid of heights like me, you’ll need an extra dose of courage, but it’s worth it.
Outdoor adventures
The Mont-Tremblant region is a paradise for nature lovers and thrill seekers, whatever the season. Managed by Sépaq, Parc national du Mont-Tremblant covers a vast area of 1,510 km². It was the first park created in Quebec. The park’s hiking trails take you through beautiful scenery. In summer and autumn, you can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
If you’re an avid mountain biker, there’s plenty for you too, with a variety of trails offering adventures for all levels. In fact, a vast network of biking trails, 700 km of which traverse the national parks, is available throughout the Mont-Tremblant region. You’ll be able to explore a vast natural playground with more than 400 lakes and two major rivers, the Diable and the Assomption. The Diable sector is the one I especially recommend—it is a personal favorite.
Domaine Saint-Bernard is another place not to miss, especially if you’re traveling with young children. Whatever the season, it’s a lovely place for a family walk. Even in the middle of summer, you can spend a relaxing day on the beach by the lake. For a sunny break in the heart of nature, you’ll find a sandy beach, picnic areas, and water activities.
At the Mont-Tremblant resort, you can also try the summer luge, a great activity for friends and families. The 1.4-kilometer track, with its 24 turns, feels a little like playing Mario Kart—without the mushrooms and bananas—and you’ll quickly get the hang of it.

It’s difficult to list all the other sporting activities available in the region. But if you’re a thrill seeker, I’d encourage you to step outside your comfort zone and try something new:
- Take to the skies and ride the giant zip line above the park. The course of five zip lines offers an exhilarating descent with beautiful views of the mountain.
- Cool off and go rafting on the Rivière Rouge. There’s nothing better in summer than having fun on the river while discovering some of the area’s most beautiful natural scenery.
Speed along the trails in a buggy. For fans of off-road driving, it’s another way to discover Quebec’s natural landscapes.
Visit Mont-Tremblant’s Villages: Shopping and a Welcoming Atmosphere
The Mont-Tremblant region is shaped by the harmonious coexistence of two distinct villages: the resort village and the historic village.
The ski village, at the foot of the snow-covered slopes, offers a lively atmosphere with elegant boutiques, good restaurants and picturesque chalets. You may feel as though you’ve stepped into a European ski resort. With direct access to the slopes and modern facilities, it’s the ideal base for winter sports enthusiasts. In summer, the resort becomes an outdoor playground, offering a wide range of activities that we’ve already mentioned: hiking, summer tobogganing, zip-lining, via ferrata, and so on.

The historic village, meanwhile, has an older character. Its streets, period buildings, and nostalgic atmosphere give it plenty of charm. It’s a destination in itself. You can wander the narrow streets, discover local art galleries, cozy cafés and craft shops and enjoy authentic food in traditional pubs. It is perfect for a day of relaxation and discovery in the lively, festive atmosphere of the village.
Together, the two villages offer a complete experience, allowing you to move from a chic alpine atmosphere to a more traditional side of Quebec in the same destination.
World-renowned golf courses
Mont-Tremblant is a popular destination for golf enthusiasts. Located in the heart of the Laurentians, its courses are set in beautiful natural surroundings. I’ve practiced there many times myself. I can also say that the staff is very welcoming and friendly. The setting is one of the area’s main attractions. The courses appeal to golfers of different abilities thanks to their scenery and technical challenges.
The course offers an immersive and rewarding golfing experience with fairways carved through the mountains, manicured greens (occasionally visited by large flocks of Canada geese) and strategically placed natural hazards. Playing golf at Mont-Tremblant offers an enjoyable and relaxing experience in the heart of Quebec’s natural landscape, whether it’s a relaxing game with friends or a serious competition.
Relax at a Scandinavian Spa: Total Relaxation
After a busy day, unwind at Scandinave Mont-Tremblant Spa after a busy day. This Nordic spa is set in a peaceful natural environment. It offers thermal experiences, saunas, and Nordic baths for deep relaxation. Visitors can recharge while enjoying views of the surrounding mountains, modern facilities, and treatments provided by qualified therapists.
You can go all year round, but a special mention goes to winter: there’s nothing quite like soaking in hot water when it’s -20 degrees outside, especially after a day on the slopes or a hike. It is a wonderfully relaxing experience in a beautiful setting.
Culinary Experiences: Gastronomy and Local Flavors
From bistros to gourmet restaurants, Mont-Tremblant offers a wide variety of culinary experiences. Enjoy local dishes that showcase the flavors of the region and discover the warm hospitality of passionate chefs, whether in the historic village or on the slopes. Try maple taffy in winter or during sugar shack season, homemade chocolate, or raclette or fondue after a good day of skiing. BeaverTails can be enjoyed year-round.
March is a great time to be in the area for maple season celebrations. Maple sap is harvested in early spring. Maple products are enjoyed by young and old alike. Come and discover maple in all its forms: syrup, taffy, and even whisky, adding flavor to both dishes and desserts. A sign of renewal and abundance, it’s a true celebration that Quebecers look forward to every year. However, if you need to limit your sugar intake, my advice would be to enjoy it in moderation.
Casino de Mont-Tremblant: Entertainment and Gaming
The Casino de Mont-Tremblant offers a dose of glamor and entertainment after an active day. The casino offers a lively atmosphere where you can try your luck at the gaming tables or the slot machines, located in the heart of the resort. The venue also offers live entertainment and events, creating a lively evening atmosphere. Admission to the casino and its restaurant is restricted to guests age 18 and over. The Casino de Mont-Tremblant promises an exciting experience in the heart of this multifaceted destination, whether you’re a gambling enthusiast or simply looking for a lively night out.

Helicopter Flights: Aerial Views Year-Round
For those looking for an adrenaline rush and an unforgettable view from the air, a helicopter flight over the Mont-Tremblant region is an activity not to be missed. Fly over the snow-capped peaks, the frozen lakes and the forests in the winter, or discover the region from a new perspective in the summer or autumn months. It is a memorable way to see the landscape from above.
Personally, I especially recommend booking a helicopter flight over Mont-Tremblant in fall, as it is my favorite season here. It allows passengers to appreciate the region in all its autumn colors and makes for a memorable experience. You’ll fly over colorful mountains, valleys with shimmering lakes and forests as far as the eye can see. The landscape is bathed in the golden, red and orange hues of autumn, and this aerial perspective offers an unparalleled panoramic view. It is a real treat for the eyes.
We also had the opportunity to take the children on a helicopter flight over Mont-Tremblant. It was a great activity!
Cultural events and activities
Although Mont-Tremblant is known for its outdoor activities, the region also has a rich cultural scene, offering a variety of events throughout the year. There’s something for everyone, from outdoor music festivals to art exhibitions and theater productions.
Seasonal festivals celebrate local music, food, and traditions, while galleries and cultural centers feature local and international artists. Mont-Tremblant’s cultural events promise an enriching and memorable experience, whether you’re a music fan, art lover or simply curious about local culture.
Here are just a few examples of events you may be able to attend:
- Alpine skiing competitions—watch elite skiers race for the title,
- Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival screenings: discover a selection of short and feature-length films centered on adventure and the outdoors,
- Caribou Cup: dress up in your best outfit and try to cross a pool of water on skis or a snowboard, followed by musical entertainment,
- Triathlon events: long-distance competitions combining swimming, cycling, and running,
- Foresta Lumina: a unique illuminated trail at Parc de la Gorge de Coaticook, telling a story inspired by the region’s folklore and Quebec forest mythology,
and much more.
