Many photographers are familiar with the classic XF and XC lenses designed for the Fujifilm X-mount, which is used by the brand’s APS-C cameras.
Fujifilm’s G-mount, meanwhile, was developed specifically for its GFX range of medium-format mirrorless cameras. It was introduced in 2017 alongside the first model in the series, the Fujifilm GFX 50S. GFX cameras use a 43.8 × 32.9mm sensor. With a flange focal distance of 26.7mm, the G-mount is shorter than many other medium-format systems, making it possible to design comparatively compact lenses. The mount uses a bayonet system with electronic contacts that allow the camera and lens to communicate.
Fujifilm offers a range of G-mount lenses, which we will cover on this page, including wide-angle, standard and telephoto models with different maximum apertures, optical designs and features such as weather sealing and image stabilization. These high-performance lenses are primarily aimed at professional photographers and are designed to cover the larger sensor used by GFX cameras, delivering exceptional image quality and resolution. Third-party manufacturers such as Mitakon, Irix and Laowa also produce lenses for the G-mount system.
G-mount lenses can be used on all the medium-format GFX cameras currently available:
- Fujifilm GFX100: 102 MP camera released in 2018
- Fujifilm GFX100 S: 102 MP camera released in February 2021
- Fujifilm GFX 100II: 102 MP camera released in September 2023
- Fujifilm GFX 100SII: 102 MP camera released in June 2024
- Fujifilm GFX 50S: 51.4 MP camera released in 2017
- Fujifilm GFX 50R: 51.4 MP camera released in 2018
- Fujifilm GFX 50S II: 50 MP camera released in November 2021
We cover what we consider to be the best Fujifilm medium-format cameras in a dedicated guide.
To calculate the full-frame-equivalent focal length, multiply the stated GFX focal length by 0.79. For example, a 23mm lens on a Fujifilm medium-format camera provides a field of view roughly equivalent to a 17mm lens on full frame.
- 05/11/2026 : Laowa 35mm f/2.8 Zero-D Tilt-Shift 0.5x Macro G
- 05/11/2026 : TTArtisan 17mm f/4 Tilt-Shift G
- 05/11/2026 : Laowa 8-15mm f/2.8 Fisheye G
- 05/11/2026 : Mitakon Zhongyi 55mm f/2.8 1-5x Macro G
- 08/31/2025 : Laowa 55mm f/2.8 Tilt-Shift 1x Macro GFX
- 08/31/2025 : Laowa 100mm f/2.8 Tilt-Shift 1x Macro GFX
For readers who are not yet familiar with medium-format cameras, it is worth remembering that they remain relatively unknown to the general public, mainly because of their price when purchased new. Even though Fujifilm has introduced a comparatively “affordable” model, the Fujifilm GFX 50R, which originally sold for around €3,500, it still represents a major investment. Medium-format systems are therefore generally aimed at professional photographers or particularly passionate enthusiasts with a substantial budget. There is a considerable difference between choosing a compact, bridge, mirrorless or medium-format camera.
So what is the advantage of using a medium-format sensor? The first thing to understand is that the sensor is significantly larger than a full-frame sensor. The resolution is generally much higher, but the photosites can also be larger and therefore gather light more effectively. A larger sensor usually provides greater dynamic range and more nuanced colour rendition, two areas in which medium format is particularly renowned.
The most important concepts to understand, however, are focal length, aperture and equivalent depth of field. As explained above and elsewhere on the blog, the physical focal length of a lens never changes. What changes is the field of view produced by the sensor on which that lens is used. This means that a Fujinon GF 80mm f/1.7 R WR frames approximately like a 63mm lens on a full-frame camera (80mm × 0.79 ≈ 63mm).
What does that mean in practice? The 80mm GF provides the field of view of a 63mm full-frame lens, while its depth of field is comparable to roughly f/1.3 on full frame. In practical terms, it can produce a shallower depth of field than a conventional 63mm full-frame lens, particularly as no mainstream 63mm lens offers an aperture wider than f/1.3. A shallower depth of field makes it easier to separate your subject from the background and create smoother bokeh.
Medium format does, of course, have disadvantages. The most obvious is its very high price, although prices have gradually fallen. Weight is also frequently mentioned, even though modern GFX bodies are lighter than many people expect. The Fujifilm GFX 50R, for example, weighs only 690g, which is less than my old Canon 6D full-frame DSLR. Other points to consider include much larger image files, which is unsurprising given the high resolution, and generally shorter battery life.
All the tables below can be sorted by clicking on the column that interests you. You can therefore organise the Fujifilm G-mount lenses by maximum aperture, focal length or filter diameter.

Here is some additional information about the main GFX lenses:
Wide-angle GFX lenses
- For landscape photography, I would particularly recommend the following lenses:
- The Fujinon GF 20-35mm f/4 R WR is a versatile wide-angle zoom for Fujifilm GFX cameras. It is particularly well suited to landscape and architectural photography. Its constant f/4 aperture and advanced optical design deliver excellent sharpness and accurate colour rendition, while the weather-resistant construction and fluorine coating provide additional protection in difficult conditions.
- The Fujinon GF 23mm f/4 R LM WR is an ultra-wide-angle prime providing an 18mm-equivalent field of view. It uses two aspherical elements and several low-dispersion elements to improve sharpness, colour accuracy and clarity. A Nano GI coating helps reduce flare and ghosting, while the internal focusing system provides fast and quiet autofocus. The lens is also dust- and weather-resistant, making it suitable for demanding outdoor conditions.
- The Fujinon GF 30mm f/3.5 R WR is a compact and relatively lightweight wide-angle prime for the Fujifilm GFX system. Its optical design combines low-dispersion and aspherical elements to produce high levels of detail, accurate colours and low distortion. The lens also includes weather sealing and a dedicated manual aperture ring.
Telephoto GFX lenses
- The Fujinon GF 100-200mm f/5.6 R LM OIS WR is a versatile medium-telephoto zoom offering a full-frame-equivalent focal range of approximately 79-158mm and a constant f/5.6 maximum aperture. Its optical design includes two Super ED elements and one aspherical element to reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations. It also features optical image stabilization rated at up to five stops, a linear autofocus motor and weather-resistant construction. The lens is compatible with the optional GF 1.4X TC WR teleconverter, which extends the focal range to 140-280mm. It is a strong option for professional photographers working in portraiture, wildlife and landscape photography.
- The Fujinon GF 110mm f/2 R LM WR is an excellent portrait lens, offering a slightly compressed field of view and a bright f/2 aperture for strong subject separation and low-light performance. Its optical design includes four extra-low-dispersion elements to minimise chromatic aberrations and improve contrast. A linear autofocus motor provides fast and quiet focusing, while the internal focusing mechanism helps maintain consistent image quality. The lens is also dust- and weather-resistant, and its nine-blade diaphragm produces smooth, attractive bokeh. It remains one of the most compelling GFX portrait lenses available.
- The Fujinon GF 250mm f/4 R LM OIS WR is a telephoto prime designed for the GFX system. Its relatively bright f/4 aperture offers a useful balance between long reach and shallow depth of field, making it suitable for wildlife and portrait photography. The optical design includes one Super ED element and two extra-low-dispersion elements. It also features a linear autofocus motor, internal focusing and optical image stabilization rated at up to five stops. The magnesium-alloy barrel is sealed against dust and moisture for use in challenging environments.
GFX macro lenses
- For macro photography, the Fujinon GF 120mm f/4 R LM OIS WR Macro is a medium-telephoto prime designed for Fujifilm’s GFX system. It features weather sealing, optical image stabilization and fast autofocus, making it a strong choice for professional photographers working in macro and portrait photography. Viltrox also offers extension tubes in 18mm and 45mm lengths for Fujifilm GFX lenses and bodies, including this model.

And the Fujinon GF 23mm f/4 LM WR wide-angle lens, currently one of the shortest native focal lengths and offering one of the widest fields of view for landscape and architectural photography – View the lens on Amazon
Fujifilm G-mount teleconverter
For photographers who need additional reach, Fujifilm offers the Fujinon GF1.4X TC WR teleconverter.
According to my research, this teleconverter can be used with the GF 250mm f/4 R LM OIS WR, extending its focal length to approximately 350mm, equivalent to around 270mm on full frame. You do, however, lose one stop of light, so the maximum aperture becomes f/5.6 instead of f/4. It can also be used with the GF 100-200mm f/5.6 R LM OIS WR, where the maximum aperture becomes f/8.

Extension tubes for Fujifilm GFX cameras
If you want to increase your lens’s magnification and capture sharper, more detailed close-up images, you may want to consider using extension tubes with your Fujifilm GFX camera. These interchangeable accessories can be used with a range of lenses, including telephoto zooms, wide-angle lenses and even fisheyes, depending on the type of result you are looking for.
In addition to Fujifilm’s own extension tubes, companies such as Viltrox and Fotodiox offer models in different lengths, including 18mm and 45mm, for greater magnification. For the best results when photographing small subjects, using a tripod or monopod is recommended, particularly when working at slower shutter speeds.
Although extension tubes can be used with zoom lenses, they may not provide the same level of sharpness or magnification as a prime lens. Nevertheless, Fujifilm, Viltrox and Fotodiox extension tubes offer an affordable way to explore macro photography and capture detailed images of insects, flowers and other small subjects.
Third-party GFX lenses
To my knowledge, Kipon, Zhong Yi, Irix, Laowa, TTArtisan, Kase, AstrHori and NiSi currently offer lenses for the Fujifilm G-mount. Irix announced its first Fujifilm G-mount lens in January 2021. Most of these third-party lenses use manual focus.
As far as I know, major third-party manufacturers such as Sigma and Tamron have not yet shown any clear interest in producing native Fujifilm G-mount lenses. However, adapters are available for photographers who want to use lenses from other systems. One example is this Techart adapter, which allows Canon EF lenses to be mounted on a Fujifilm GFX medium-format camera.
Kipon G-mount lenses
At the moment, Kipon appears to offer only one telephoto lens for the G-mount. It is a manual-focus lens that is likely to be most useful for portrait photography, particularly outdoors.

Laowa G-mount lenses
Laowa has developed some of the widest manual-focus lenses available for Fujifilm medium-format cameras. One of the most notable is a 17mm lens, equivalent to approximately 13mm on full frame. By comparison, Fujifilm’s own Fujinon GF 23mm f/4 R LM WR provides an 18mm-equivalent field of view.
With its 113° angle of view, the Laowa 17mm is particularly well suited to landscape, architecture and interior photography. Its all-metal construction is reportedly very good, although the lens still weighs 829g. The Zero-D designation indicates that distortion is extremely well controlled, which is especially valuable for architectural and interior photographers who need straight lines to remain straight. Initial feedback on image quality has also been very positive.
Another useful feature is its ability to accept conventional screw-in filters. The 20cm minimum focusing distance also allows photographers to work very close to their subject and create striking perspective effects. Overall, it remains a very appealing option for photographers who want an extremely wide field of view at a significantly lower price than Fujifilm’s native 23mm, which costs around $2,500.

TTArtisan lenses for Fujifilm GFX cameras
TTArtisan currently offers several lenses for Fujifilm GFX cameras, including the TTArtisan 11mm f/2.8 and the 90mm f/1.25. Both use manual focus. The 90mm f/1.25 telephoto prime is a more affordable alternative to lenses such as the Fujinon GF 80mm f/1.7 R WR for outdoor portrait photography. Some reviews mention noticeable vignetting, although it can be corrected relatively easily in post-processing. Its very shallow depth of field makes it possible to create particularly smooth background blur.

Adapters for Fujifilm GFX cameras
A wide range of adapters allows lenses from other systems to be used on Fujifilm GFX cameras. The table below includes several reliable options that I found during my research. Also:
- Fotodiox Pro is, in my opinion, one of the most established and reliable manufacturers of G-mount adapters. The company offers adapters for a very wide selection of mounts, including Leica L39, M42, Contax, Pentax 645, Canon EF/EF-S, Leica S, Leica M, Hasselblad, Leica R, Minolta and Pentax K. You can view these adapters through the following link.
That concludes this overview of the main Fujifilm GFX lenses currently available. I will continue updating the article as new lenses are released. If you are interested in this sensor format, I have also listed all the current Hasselblad lenses available.
Take care.
