List of Fuji GFX lenses
Many people are familiar with classic XF and XC lenses for the Fujifilm X-mount, i.e. for an APS-C mount.
Fujifilm’s G-mount is a lens mount system specifically designed for their GFX series of medium format mirrorless cameras, which was introduced in 2017 alongside the first GFX camera, the Fujifilm GFX 50S. GFX camera have a measures 43.8 mm x 32.9 mm sensor. With a flange focal distance of 26.7mm, the G-mount is shorter than other medium format systems, allowing for more compact lens designs. The mount features a bayonet-style design with electronic contacts for communication between the camera and lens. Fujifilm offers a range of G-mount lenses (which we’ll discuss on this page), including wide-angle, standard, and telephoto lenses with varying maximum apertures, optical designs, and features such as weather resistance and image stabilization. These high-performance G-mount lenses are especially aimed at professional photographers and are designed to cover the larger image sensor of the GFX cameras, providing exceptional image quality and resolution. Third-party lenses, such as Mitakon, Irix and Laowa, are also available for the G-mount system.
G mount lenses will adapt on all medium-format cameras currently available:
- Fujifilm GFX100: 102 MP camera released in 2018
- Fujifilm GFX100 S: 102 MP camera released in february 2021
- Fujifilm GFX 50S: 51.4 MP camera released in 2017
- Fujifilm GFX 50R: 51.4 MP camera released in 2018
- Fujifilm GFX 50S II : 50 MP camera released in nov. 21
We detail what we consider to be the best Fujifilm medium format cameras on our page.
If you are looking for the focal length equivalent to full frame, you will have to multiply the announced focal length on the medium format by 0.79. Thus, a 23mm on a medium format camera from Fuji will give the equivalent of a viewing angle of 17mm on full frame.

Check out my practical photography packs. It's a simple, fun and entertaining way to learn and improve in photography, especially in the field!
For those who don’t know medium format cameras already, it has to be said that they are still not well known by the general public, especially because of their price when brand new. Even if Fujifilm has just released a “not too expensive” medium format camera, the Fujifilm GFX 50R (around 3500€), it is still a very important investment, often reserved for professional photographers and/or wealthy amateurs, truly passionate about photography. Between deciding to buy a compact, a bridge, a mirrorless camera or a medium format sensor, there is a world of difference…
So, what is the point of using a camera with a medium format sensor to capture our most beautiful moments? The first thing to realize is that the sensor is much larger than a full-frame sensor. Of course, the number of pixels is generally much higher, but this implies that the photosites composing the sensor are generally larger, and therefore capture the light better. The fact of having a larger sensor will clearly improve the dynamics of the image as well as the color rendition, which is generally known to be much better.
But what is most important to remember is the notion of focal length, aperture and equivalent depth of field. As mentioned above and on our blog in several articles, a focal length does not change. Indeed, it’s the sensor size on which we place the lens that varies the angle of field we get in our viewfinder. This implies that a Fujinon GF 80mm f/1.7 R WR will frame like a 63mm on a full frame camera (80mm x 0.79 = about a 63mm). You will tell me that it’s great, but what does it concretely imply? Well, it simply means that your 80mm Fuji GF is equivalent to a 63mm on full frame, but the equivalent aperture is about f/1.3. Concretely, the depth of field will be shorter at equivalent aperture than what a 63mm on full frame can offer (knowing that there’s no 63mm with a wide aperture than f/1.3). And shorter depth of field means blurred backgrounds and better quality of bokeh.
Of course, the medium format also has flaws. Among the most obvious, we can mention its very high price (even if it tends to decrease). The weight is also often put forward, although it is less and less true. The Fujifilm GFX 50R weighs only 690g (which is less than my (old) 6D, a full frame camera). Another point to note and to know: the weight of the files will generally be much heavier (and it should be expected considering the number of Megapixels), and the battery life is more reduced.
As a reminder, all the tables below can be sorted by simply clicking on whichever column you are interested in. You can thus classify all fuji g lenses according to their maximum aperture, their focal length or the diameter of the filter.

Fujifilm G-mount Extender
For those wishing to extend their focal length, there is an extender available for Fuji gf lenses, the Fujinon GF1.4X TC WR.
According to my research, this extender lens can be used with the GF 250mm f/4 R LM OIS WR lens, which gives a focal length of about 350mm (equivalent to 270mm on a full-frame sensor). However, you lose an aperture stop and the lens will only open at f/5.6 instead of f/4. Finally, you can also use the extender on the GF 100-200mm f/5.6 R LM OIS WR. In addition, you lose a stop (so you get a maximum aperture of f/8).

Fujifilm GFX camera extension tubes
If you’re looking to enhance the magnification of your lens and capture sharper, more detailed close-up images, you may want to consider using extension tubes with your Fujifilm GFX camera. With these interchangeable accessories, you can use various lenses, including telephoto zoom lenses, wide-angle lenses, and even fisheye lenses, to achieve your desired results.
In addition to Fujifilm’s extension tubes, you may want to check out options from companies like Viltrox and Fotodiox, who offer tubes with different lengths, such as 18mm and 45mm, for even greater magnification capabilities. To ensure the best possible results when taking close-up shots, it’s recommended that you use a tripod or monopod for stability, especially if you’re using slower shutter speeds.
While extension tubes can be used with zoom lenses, it’s important to note that they may not provide the same level of sharpness and magnification as a prime lens. However, with Fujifilm GFX extension tubes, as well as those offered by Viltrox and Fotodiox, you can explore the world of macro photography and capture stunning images of insects, flowers, and other small subjects, at a low price.

Third party GFX lenses
To my knowledge, only Kipon, Zhong Yi, Irix, Laowa and TTartinsa propose lenses for Fujifilm G mount. Irix has just announced in January 2021 the release of their first lens for the G-mount from Fujifilm. All these lenses are manual focus.
For those wondering, I haven’t heard yet that traditional third-party brands (Sigma, Tamron) could be interested in Fujifilm’s G mount. If you want to dabble in it, there is for example an adapter ring allowing to place Canon EF lenses on a Fuji GFX medium format camera, like the Techart model.
Kipon G mount lenses
There’s for now only one telephoto-lens from Kipon for this G mount. I would say that this is a manual portrait-lens, especially outside.

Zhong Yi GFX lenses
To my knowledge, there’re only two Mitakon Zhong Yi GFX lenses for now. The two prime lenses are listed bellow. Both would be actually great for low-light photography (with their large f/1.4 and f/1.2 aperture). A new 135mm f/2.5 lens is available now is this GFX mount.

Laowa G-mount lenses
Laowa recently released the manual focus lens with the widest field of view for a medium format camera, a 17mm (equivalent to a 13mm ultra wide-angle lens on a full frame camera). If you want to stick with Fujifilm, only the Fujinon GF 23mm f/4 R LM WR allows a “wide” angle of view, equivalent to an 18mm on a full-frame camera (which is, between us, not huge to shoot pictures with immensity effects). With an angle of view of 113°, it is an ideal lens for landscape, architecture or indoor photography. The all-metal build quality is said to be very good, even though the lens still weighs 829g. As the name suggests, it is a lens with no distortion, which will be very appreciated by architecture or interior photographers in order to get straight lines. The image quality is also said to be very good, according to the first feedbacks. Worth noting that you can use conventional screw-in filters with this lens. Finally, the 20cm minimum focusing distance will allow you to get close to your subject and then achieve very interesting effects! It remains a very good choice for people wishing to shoot wide images, and for a much lower price than the 23mm from Fujinon (around 2500$).

Irix lenses for Fujifilm G
Introduced in January 2021, the Irix 45mm f/1.4 GFX is a top-of-the-line manual focus, weather-sealed wide-angle prime lens designed for Fujifilm G-mount mirrorless medium format cameras. This exceptional lens has a f/1.4 maximum aperture, and its optical design comprises of one aspherical element, four high refractive index elements, and one extra-low dispersion element. These features work together to reduce aberrations and create stunningly sharp and color-accurate imagery.
The Irix 45mm f/1.4 GFX also includes a positive focus lock mechanism, an internal focusing design, a depth of field scale, and a nine-blade diaphragm that produces beautiful, smooth bokeh. Additionally, the lens comes with a Dragonfly finish that incorporates weather sealing, ensuring that it is protected against the elements, making it ideal for use in challenging weather conditions.

TTArtisan lenses for Fujifilm GFX cameras
TTartisan is proposing for now two lenses for Fujifilm GFX cameras : the TTArtisan 11mm f/2.8 and the 90mm f/1.25. Both are manual focus lenses. The 90mm f/1.25 telephoto lens is a nice and cheaper alternative than then Fujinon GF 80mm f/1.7 R WR (for example) if you’re looking a lens for (outside) portrait photography. Some review talked about vignetting but it’s also well corrected in post-production. The shallow depth of field this lens can produce will help you to get a very noce blur background.
