After publishing my first articles about the island, I thought it would be useful to help you decide where to stay in Gozo. I spent a few days on the island at the end of my trip through the archipelago. Honestly, it was exactly what I needed. The atmosphere is much calmer than on Malta’s main island, and even the better-known attractions felt uncrowded and relatively unspoiled when I visited in April. At times, it felt as though we had the island almost to ourselves, which was a real highlight.
With Victoria and its hilltop Citadel, picturesque villages, coastal hikes, hidden coves, and turquoise water, Gozo is a beautiful island that deserves to be better known. Of course, greater popularity would also take away some of the secluded, unspoiled character that makes these places so appealing. In any case, I hope my previous articles, especially the guide to what to do in Gozo, have encouraged you to stay for at least a few days.
This article is here to help you choose accommodation that suits both your travel style and your budget. As usual, my recommendations are based on my impressions from the trip and the feedback I gathered afterward. From luxury hotels to apartments and vacation homes, there is a wide range of options.

Where to stay in Gozo: the best areas
Gozo may be small, but it offers several appealing places to stay. Each village has its own distinct atmosphere. You can stay by the sea, surrounded by nature, or right in the heart of local life. There is likely to be a village that matches the kind of trip you have in mind. Here are the areas that stood out during my stay:
- Xlendi, by the sea: I will admit that I am not entirely objective here. This is where I stayed, and I loved the small bay. I was about 100 meters from the water and could even catch a lovely glimpse of the bay from the corner of my balcony. What I appreciated most was the balance between peace and activity. The small town itself is rather calm, but it attracts locals and tourists. The setting is undeniably picturesque, with turquoise water tucked between the cliffs. The waterfront is easy to explore on foot, and there are several restaurants by the bay, including places serving very fresh fish. Then there are the sunsets, best enjoyed with an ice cream in hand. It really feels like a vacation.
- Victoria (Rabat), the capital: it is hard to find a more practical base. You will be at the center of the island’s road and bus network. In practical terms, many of Gozo’s main sights are within roughly 20 minutes. In town, it is easy to wander through the old, colorful lanes. Even though it’s the capital, depending on when you go, the streets aren’t very crowded. There are cafés, restaurants, and local shops, so you will have plenty to explore nearby. Above all, do not miss the famous Citadel overlooking the town and much of the island. From the top, you can enjoy sweeping views across Gozo. If you like being close to restaurants, transportation, and everyday activity, Victoria is an excellent choice, even without a sea view.

- Marsalforn, a seaside resort atmosphere: this small coastal village in northeastern Gozo is fairly quiet for much of the year. In summer, however, it becomes noticeably livelier. It has the feel of a compact resort town, with restaurants, seafront walks, and nearby activities such as snorkeling, diving, and paddleboarding. It is also just a few minutes from Gozo’s famous salt pans, which are especially beautiful around sunset. If you want to stay close to the sea, Marsalforn is an easy choice.
- San Lawrenz, peaceful and comfortable: on the western side of the island, this is a quiet and picturesque village. You will be surrounded by countryside, making it a good place to switch off. It’s also where you’ll find the 5-star Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz (I’ll tell you about it below). You will not be directly by the sea, but Dwejra Bay is nearby.
- Qala and Nadur, a more local atmosphere: in eastern Gozo, these villages feel noticeably more residential and traditional. Tourist numbers are lower, and village life centers around small local squares. A major advantage is their proximity to Ramla Bay, which I consider the island’s largest and most beautiful beach. They are also close to Mġarr, the port used by ferries between Malta and Gozo. I liked both villages, although they felt a little too quiet for my own stay. For travelers who value peace and quiet, however, they are well worth considering. We actually wrote a complete article on the beaches of Gozo.
The best accommodations in Gozo
For a more indulgent stay in Gozo, I selected several upscale accommodations. From hotels in Victoria to villas with pools and sea views near Xagħra or Żebbuġ, there is something for a range of preferences. These options are well suited to travelers looking for a peaceful, intimate setting. Here are the properties that stood out.
You can also use the map below to locate the hotels mentioned in this article and explore additional options.

Luxury hotels and villas in Gozo: our selection
Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz
We begin with this five-star hotel in Gozo. Set in the heart of San Lawrenz, the hotel offers a peaceful setting. The property is surrounded by Mediterranean gardens. The rooms are spacious and elegantly decorated. In terms of facilities, you can enjoy 2 heated indoor pools, 3 outdoor pools, a hot tub, and a spa/wellness center. Overall, it is a full-service upscale resort.
Several restaurants serve Mediterranean and Italian cuisine, grilled dishes, and fresh fish. There is a good range of dining options on site. To give you an idea of its location, you will be near Dwejra Bay and Xlendi Bay (the best!). In short, it is one of Gozo’s best-known upscale hotels.
Hotel Ta' Cenc & Spa
Hotel Ta’ Cenc & Spa is another upscale option. It is located in Sannat, close to the well-known Ta’ Cenc cliffs. The setting feels secluded and surrounded by Gozo’s natural landscape. The hotel offers modern, all-stone bungalows. That architectural style is a large part of its appeal. The hotel’s gardens are well maintained, and as a bonus, you can enjoy a magnificent unobstructed view of the cliffs.
Facilities include, with three pools (including one heated indoor), a full spa with sauna, hammam and jacuzzi, and a gym. The property also advertises a seasonal shuttle to a private cove. Guest feedback on the dining is generally positive. Overall, Hotel Ta’ Cenc & Spa is a strong alternative to the previous property. If you are choosing between them, compare their locations carefully.
The Duke Boutique Hotel
This next hotel offers a very different experience in the heart of Victoria. Here, you are closer to everyday life on the island. The Duke Boutique Hotel is a modern and refined establishment offering a comfortable stay with an excellent location. It is located above a shopping center, yet reviews generally describe it as quiet, and the Citadel is nearby. The nearby bus connections also make it convenient for exploring the island.
The rooms are spacious and bright, and some include a private hot tub, steam room, or views of the Citadel. In my opinion, it is a strong option in the capital for couples, solo travelers, and families. If you try it, let me know!
Ta' Klementa Farmhouse
For a more independent stay, this villa is located in the village of L-Għarb, in western Gozo. The house is spacious and well equipped, with 4 large en-suite bedrooms, air conditioning, modern equipped kitchen, living room with fireplace, plus a private pool in the garden. It has everything needed for a comfortable group stay.
For families or groups of friends, Ta’ Klementa Farmhouse can be a convenient base for exploring Gozo. Besides, you’ll be close to several must-sees, like Dwejra Bay, the Ta‘ Pinu basilica, and Victoria. It is easy to imagine settling in for a few days.

Ghajn Damma
Ghajn Damma is a good option for travelers looking for a peaceful base in Gozo. The property sits above Marsalforn, with views across the countryside toward the Mediterranean. Guests can relax by the infinity pool or enjoy coffee on the sunny terrace. Writing about it certainly makes me want to travel again.
For the accommodations offered, you can either rent a room, a suite, or the entire villa. If you’re in a group, it might be nicer to have the villa all to yourself. It is not a budget option, but it may suit groups willing to pay for more privacy. In addition to this setting, the villa owner is welcoming while remaining available if you need anything. That kind of attentive hosting is always a welcome advantage. Not to mention that you will be right next to Ramla Bay (the famous golden-red sandy beach) and Marsalforn (with its salt pans, remember!). Overall, Ghajn Damma is a distinctive place to stay.
Gozo Break Farmhouses
Gozo Break Farmhouses tick many boxes for a quiet stay. As the name suggests, the properties were originally traditional Gozitan farmhouses. They have been carefully renovated: exposed stone, wooden beams, large spaces, all bathed in light! It’s a blend of authenticity and elegance. That blend gives the properties much of their character. You’ll have a choice between different villas depending on the number of people you are and the level of comfort you want. Whichever property you choose, you can expect a modern kitchen, comfortable bedrooms, spacious terraces, and a pool.
The only small downside: there is only one villa that is air-conditioned. In summer, the temperature can rise quickly inside, even if the stones help protect against it! I think the concept works well, combining modern comfort with traditional character.

Hotels and vacation homes offering good value in Gozo
Gozo also has several comfortable accommodations that offer good value without requiring a luxury budget. Options range from family-friendly hotels to independently managed properties. Some are particularly well located and include breakfast or other useful amenities.
I could not include every property, so I focused on options that stood out.
Hotel San Andrea
Hotel San Andrea is located in Xlendi Bay, one of my favorite places to stay in Gozo. The hotel offers bright rooms, some with balconies overlooking the bay and surrounding cliffs. The overall style is simple but comfortable. The Zafiro restaurant is on the ground floor! I ate there myself and found both the setting and the food very enjoyable. In my opinion, the biggest advantage of the hotel is its location: right by the bay for water activities, swimming, or taking the trails!
Villa Xemxija
We stay in Xlendi with this fully comfortable villa! In reality, the villa comprises several apartments. They can accommodate 3 to 5 people. Upon arrival, you feel like you’re in a cocoon, with the garden and the pool. Yes, you read correctly: even if you rent an apartment, you can enjoy a pool! It’s quite rare for an apartment, and I find it makes a difference, especially if you come in summer. Well, there is still the turquoise bay right next door, haha. For your information, this accommodation is mainly appreciated for a stay as a couple or with family. With all the amenities, I think it’s really a good deal!

La Playa Hotel
We head west to Marsalforn! La Playa Hotel lives up to its name by offering you a location right by the sea in a pretty coastal village. On site, you get a blend of simplicity and comfort. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by the team, who are very nice and warm. The rooms are bright and well decorated. You immediately feel at ease! Additionally, some have a balcony with a sea or village view, depending on your preferences. Another asset of this holiday accommodation in Gozo: the hearty and tasty breakfast to start your day right! In summary, you can choose this hotel with your eyes closed!
Little Blue House
Still in Marsalforn, just a few steps from the beach, Little Blue House is a charming holiday home. It’s simple: as soon as you enter, you feel at home. It can accommodate up to 8 people. That’s a lot, and you will not lack space! There are 3 spacious rooms, each with its own bathroom. To prepare your meals, the kitchen is modern and equipped! And to enjoy them, there is a rooftop terrace or a dining area. Clearly, the rooftop terrace quickly becomes everyone’s favorite spot, haha. Location-wise, as I said, you will be near Marsalforn beach, but also Ramla beach. In short, Little Blue House has everything to please!
Ferrieha B&B
Ferrieha B&B welcomes you on the heights of Qala! It’s a large stone house, typical of Gozo. Several rooms are offered for 2 or 3 people, at different comfort levels. Only one has a sea view (note: it books quickly!). Otherwise, they are all spacious, bright, and well decorated. Of course, you’ll also have your private bathroom. Outside, you will have access to a pool with sun loungers surrounded by greenery. Thanks to its location, you can easily get to Hondoq ir-Rummien beach (one of my favorites on the island!), Mgarr harbor or the Citadel by car. Whether for a short or long stay, I bet you won’t want to leave!
Ajuga Luxury Boutique B&B
Here is another great address in Qala: Ajuga Luxury Boutique B&B! The place is refined, with good comfort and a warm atmosphere. For sleeping, the rooms are spacious, painted in soft tones, and some offer a balcony with a panoramic sea view! If you want more comfort, or if you are four traveling, there is the Deluxe suite, which is top. For foodies, the breakfast is super good, with fresh, local products. Not to mention the pool, which you will surely appreciate: it’s saltwater, with loungers all around. You couldn’t be more peaceful than here. So if it’s tranquility you’re looking for, don’t hesitate!

Apartments and guesthouses in Gozo
We agree: accommodation cost is among the biggest travel expenses! If you want to travel on a budget, know that there are very affordable lodgings in Gozo. Thanks to my research and experience on site, I’ve concocted a list of apartments and guesthouses with good value for money and very good reviews!
Lellux Qala
Lellux Qala is a traditional guesthouse in the village of Qala. Price-wise, it’s more affordable than the previous ones. It offers a super calm setting while being close to the center of the village, with restaurants and Hondoq ir-Rummien beach (I already mentioned it above). Regarding rooms, they are all simple but comfortable. One small note: some have private bathrooms, while others include a shared bathroom. Pay attention when you book!
There are also two outdoor pools: it feels good after moving around all day. You will have access to several common areas, such as a terrace, a lounge, and a kitchen. All these spaces bring a touch of conviviality to the stay! With a peaceful, well-located setting, Lellux Qala is a good option to stay in Gozo.
Magical Modern Apartment
Magical Modern Apartment is new, modern, and very well equipped. Also, it’s located in Victoria, close to the Citadel. It’s clearly ideal as a starting point to explore the whole island of Gozo. To describe the interior of the apartment: it’s spacious, air-conditioned, with everything you need!
You have the option to book a single room, with a private or shared bathroom, or the entire apartment if you want a more intimate setting or if you are several. If you want well-located accommodation at a good price, it’s an excellent choice!
HAPPY & HEALTHY GOZO, self-check-in guest house
This time, discover a guesthouse in the heart of Victoria! The vibe is relaxed: you enter by yourself, you are completely autonomous. As for location, it’s perfect: you’re very close to the center and bus stops, while staying in a quiet neighborhood. For amenities, you will enjoy a pool and an optional hearty breakfast.
On site, different rooms are offered with budget options. For example, you’ll pay extra for pool towels or air conditioning. If you have a pet, it is welcome. It’s one of the few accommodations in Gozo that accepts pets, for an additional fee. Honestly, if you want an authentic, hassle-free stay, you’ll be happy!
Triesti Home
Another gem in Victoria, even more in the city center! Here, you’ll be at the foot of all amenities: restaurants, buses, supermarkets, Citadel. It’s a stone building with clean, well-equipped studios. I admit, the décor is rather old-fashioned, with local touches, but that’s part of its charm. Here, no extra fees for options: even though it’s economical, everything is included!
The practical location and comfort of the place are perfect for spending a few days (or more) in Gozo!

Forty Three #1, 2
Forty Three #1, 2 is another well-placed option if you want a central, practical, and quiet stay. The apartment is 20m², but it’s well arranged for solo or couple vacations. Clearly, its location is its main asset: next to all shops, restaurants, and transport.
Moreover, the host’s welcome is great: they are very accommodating and give very good advice! In terms of amenities, everything is there: air conditioning, washing machine, modern and complete kitchen. We agree, it’s not luxury, but the studio offers a very good value for money. It’s worth it!
That’s it, we’ve taken a good tour of the best accommodations in Gozo. As you could see, there are quite a few choices with hidden gems. In any case, I hope this helped you organize yourself and that you now have a clearer idea of where to stay in Gozo.
