After my first articles on the island of Gozo, I thought it would be interesting to help you find where to stay in Gozo. On my side, I spent a few days on the island at the end of my stay in the archipelago. Honestly, it did me a world of good! The atmosphere is much calmer than in Malta, and even the tourist spots—in April at least—aren’t very crowded and remain wild. We almost felt alone in the world there, and honestly, that feeling is a big plus!
Between the capital Victoria and its citadel, which dominates the whole island, its picturesque villages, its coastal hikes, its hidden coves and its turquoise waters, Gozo is a magnificent island that would deserve to be better known. Although that would attract more people and take away the little exclusive and wild side of these tourist spots. Food for thought then ahah! In any case, I hope that all the previous articles, notably the one on what to do in Gozo, have made you want to stay at least a few days.
If that is the case, the purpose of this article is to help you choose the accommodation that matches your desires, but also your budget. As usual, I based myself on my feeling on site and on the feedback I received to share with you the best Gozitan addresses. Between luxury hotels, apartments, holiday homes, you will have a wide choice
If you are looking for a great activity not to miss, I invite you to read our full guide on our quad excursion in Gozo.
Where to stay in Gozo? The best places to stay
Contrary to what one might think, even if Gozo is a small island, there are quite a few beautiful places to stay. I would even say that each village has its own vibe. For example, you can choose to stay by the sea, in a natural setting, or be right in the heart of local life. In any case, there is surely a village you will like. Here are the spots I identified during my stay on site:
- Xlendi, by the sea: on this one, I really won’t be objective. It’s simply where I stayed, and I loved this little bay. I was about a hundred meters from the bay, even with a lovely view, at the corner of my balcony. What I appreciated here was the mix of tranquility and liveliness. The small town itself is rather calm, but it attracts locals and tourists. One must say that the setting is postcard-worthy, with its turquoise water nestled between the cliffs. And the whole area is developed: you can stroll peacefully and dine in restaurants by the bay (some serving very fresh fish, a treat!). Not to mention the sunsets at the end of the day, with an ice cream in hand. It really is vacation!
- Victoria (Rabat), the capital: you can’t get more practical as a location! You will be at the heart of the road and bus network. To put it simply, you will be about 20 minutes from most must-see spots. In town, you can almost get lost in its ancient, colorful alleys. Even though it’s the capital, depending on when you go, the streets aren’t very crowded. There are cafés, restaurants, and local shops—you’ll have plenty to explore. And above all, don’t miss the famous Citadel perched high above, which dominates the entire town (and even the entire island). You will clearly have a 360° view of the whole island! If you enjoy going out and being next to everything, you might not have a sea view, but everything else is there!

- Marsalforn, beach resort vibe: year-round, the atmosphere is rather calm in this small coastal village (in the northeast of the island). But in summer, it livens up! It feels like a small resort town, with restaurants, promenades, and nearby water activities like snorkeling, diving, paddleboarding, etc. Plus, it’s just minutes from Gozo’s famous salt pans, even more beautiful at sunset (I highly recommend!). If you want to make the most of the sea, you can prioritize this spot without hesitation!
- San Lawrenz, calm and comfortable: head completely to the west of the island, to a very quiet and picturesque village! You will be in the middle of the countryside and nature. It’s rather nice for truly disconnecting. It’s also where you’ll find the 5-star Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz (I’ll tell you about it below). This time, you won’t be by the sea, but you’ll be near Dwejra Bay for swimming!
- Qala and Nadur, authentic side: all the way east, the villages of Qala and Nadur are very local. There are almost no tourists, just small squares. The big plus: they are very close to what I consider the largest and most beautiful beach on the island, Ramla Bay. In terms of location, you will also be very close to Mgarr, the arrival or departure point (depending on direction) of the Gozo-Malta ferry. I admit I liked these villages, but they were perhaps a bit too quiet for me to stay there. But if you love tranquility, go for it! We actually wrote a complete article on the beaches of Gozo.

Luxury hotels and villas in Gozo: our selection
Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz
We start strong with this 5-star hotel in Gozo! In the heart of the village of San Lawrenz, this hotel offers you an exceptional setting. You will be surrounded by Mediterranean gardens! As for the rooms, they are luxurious, with elegant décor. In terms of facilities, you can enjoy 2 heated indoor pools, 3 outdoor pools, a hot tub, and a spa/wellness center. It’s clearly a high-end hotel complex!
To delight your taste buds, you will have access to several restaurants offering Mediterranean/Italian cuisine, grilled dishes, and fresh fish. You are in for a treat! To give you an idea of its location, you will be near Dwejra Bay and Xlendi Bay (the best!). In a few words, it’s one of the best hotels in Gozo!
Hotel Ta' Cenc & Spa
We remain in the very high-end category with Hotel Ta’ Cenc & Spa. As the name suggests, you will be very close to the famous Ta’ Cenc cliffs, in the small village of Sannat. The setting is simply exceptional, in the middle of Gozo’s preserved nature! The hotel offers modern, all-stone bungalows. That is what gives it its charm! The hotel’s gardens are well maintained, and as a bonus, you can enjoy a magnificent unobstructed view of the cliffs.
As for services, unsurprisingly, they are up to the standard, with three pools (including one heated indoor), a full spa with sauna, hammam and jacuzzi, and a gym. To top it all off, the establishment provides a shuttle service to a private cove (summer only). You guessed it, the feedback on the cuisine is excellent! In conclusion, Hotel Ta’ Cenc & Spa comes to rival the previous one. If you hesitate between the two, I especially recommend looking at their locations to make your choice!
The Duke Boutique Hotel
We switch completely with this hotel in the heart of Victoria, the capital of the island. Here, you get closer to Gozitan life. The Duke Boutique Hotel is a modern and refined establishment offering a comfortable stay with an excellent location. To place you, it is above a shopping center (without being noisy, rest assured!) and especially very close to the Citadel. That’s a big plus for getting around the island: you will have bus access nearby.
Regarding the rooms, they are spacious and bright; some even have a private hot tub, a steam room, with a view of the Citadel! A dream! In my opinion, it’s clearly a very good address in the capital, whether for couples, solo travelers, or families. If you try it, let me know!
Ta' Klementa Farmhouse
For a change, and if you prefer more autonomous vacations, here is a villa nestled in the village of L-Għarb (far west of the island). To give you a tour of the house: it is spacious and well equipped, with 4 large en-suite bedrooms, air conditioning, modern equipped kitchen, living room with fireplace, and the cherry on top: a private pool in the garden. You tell me, but I think it has everything!
Without going too far ahead, if you come with family or friends, Ta’ Klementa Farmhouse is great for enjoying Gozo and its surroundings. Besides, you’ll be close to several must-sees, like Dwejra Bay, the Ta‘ Pinu basilica, and Victoria. So, can you already see yourself there?

Ghajn Damma
If you’re looking for a peaceful base to visit Gozo, Ghajn Damma is a safe bet. You will be on the heights of Marsalforn; imagine the panorama between countryside and the Mediterranean Sea in the distance. To imagine even more, you can dive into the infinity pool or have a coffee on the sunny terrace. Just writing these lines makes me want to go on vacation again, ahah!
For the accommodations offered, you can either rent a room, a suite, or the entire villa. If you’re in a group, it might be nicer to have the villa all to yourself. We agree, it’s not cheap, but if you have the budget: go for it! In addition to this setting, the villa owner is welcoming while remaining available if you need anything. Honestly, I always find that a big plus! Not to mention that you will be right next to Ramla Bay (the famous golden-red sandy beach) and Marsalforn (with its salt pans, remember!). In the end, Ghajn Damma is a gem not to be missed!
Gozo Break Farmhouses
To spend a few quiet days, I would say that Gozo Break Farmhouses tick a lot of boxes! They live up to their name: originally, they were traditional Gozitan farms. One can say they have been well renovated: exposed stone, wooden beams, large spaces, all bathed in light! It’s a blend of authenticity and elegance. That’s what gives the charm to the place! You’ll have a choice between different villas depending on the number of people you are and the level of comfort you want. Whatever your choice, you will have a modern kitchen, comfortable bedrooms, large terraces, and especially a pool!
The only small downside: there is only one villa that is air-conditioned. In summer, the temperature can rise quickly inside, even if the stones help protect against it! Personally, I find that the concept of these villas is well thought out, combining modernity and authenticity.

It can range from family-friendly hotels to privately managed accommodations. There are very well-located ones, with breakfast included and everything you need to feel on vacation.
Of course, I couldn’t list them all. But I promise, I only selected good addresses!
Hotel San Andrea
Head to Xlendi Bay, which is one of the best places to stay in Gozo for me. Hotel San Andrea offers you beautiful bright rooms with a balcony overlooking the bay and its cliffs (just wow!). The vibe is rather simple but comfortable: you won’t miss anything. The Zafiro restaurant is on the ground floor! I tried it, and I can tell you that the setting is just exceptional, and the food is very good. In my opinion, the biggest advantage of the hotel is its location: right by the bay for water activities, swimming, or taking the trails!
Villa Xemxija
We stay in Xlendi with this fully comfortable villa! In reality, the villa comprises several apartments. They can accommodate 3 to 5 people. Upon arrival, you feel like you’re in a cocoon, with the garden and the pool. Yes, you read correctly: even if you rent an apartment, you can enjoy a pool! It’s quite rare for an apartment, and I find it makes a difference, especially if you come in summer. Well, there is still the turquoise bay right next door, haha. For your information, this accommodation is mainly appreciated for a stay as a couple or with family. With all the amenities, I think it’s really a good deal!

That’s a lot, and you will not lack space! There are 3 spacious rooms, each with its own bathroom. To prepare your meals, the kitchen is modern and equipped! And to enjoy them, there is a rooftop terrace or a dining area. Clearly, the rooftop terrace quickly becomes everyone’s favorite spot, haha. Location-wise, as I said, you will be near Marsalforn beach, but also Ramla beach. In short, Little Blue House has everything to please!
Ferrieha B&B
Ferrieha B&B welcomes you on the heights of Qala! It’s a large stone house, typical of Gozo. Several rooms are offered for 2 or 3 people, at different comfort levels. Only one has a sea view (note: it books quickly!). Otherwise, they are all spacious, bright, and well decorated. Of course, you’ll also have your private bathroom. Outside, you will have access to a pool with sun loungers surrounded by greenery. Thanks to its location, you can easily get to Hondoq ir-Rummien beach (one of my favorites on the island!), Mgarr harbor or the Citadel by car. Whether for a short or long stay, I bet you won’t want to leave!
Ajuga Luxury Boutique B&B
Here is another great address in Qala: Ajuga Luxury Boutique B&B! The place is refined, with good comfort and a warm atmosphere. For sleeping, the rooms are spacious, painted in soft tones, and some offer a balcony with a panoramic sea view! If you want more comfort, or if you are four traveling, there is the Deluxe suite, which is top. For foodies, the breakfast is super good, with fresh, local products. Apartments and guesthouses in Gozo
We agree: accommodation cost is among the biggest travel expenses! If you want to travel on a budget, know that there are very affordable lodgings in Gozo. Thanks to my research and experience on site, I’ve concocted a list of apartments and guesthouses with good value for money and very good reviews!
Lellux Qala
Lellux Qala is a traditional guesthouse in the village of Qala. Price-wise, it’s more affordable than the previous ones. It offers a super calm setting while being close to the center of the village, with restaurants and Hondoq ir-Rummien beach (I already mentioned it above). Regarding rooms, they are all simple but comfortable. One small note: some have private bathrooms, while others include a shared bathroom. Pay attention when you book!
There are also two outdoor pools: it feels good after moving around all day. You will have access to several common areas, such as a terrace, a lounge, and a kitchen. All these spaces bring a touch of conviviality to the stay! With a peaceful, well-located setting, Lellux Qala is a good option to stay in Gozo.
Magical Modern Apartment
Magical Modern Apartment is new, modern, and very well equipped. Also, it’s located in Victoria, close to the Citadel. It’s clearly ideal as a starting point to explore the whole island of Gozo. To describe the interior of the apartment: it’s spacious, air-conditioned, with everything you need!
You have the option to book a single room, with a private or shared bathroom, or the entire apartment if you want a more intimate setting or if you are several. If you want well-located accommodation at a good price, it’s an excellent choice!

On site, different rooms are offered with budget options. For example, you’ll pay extra for pool towels or air conditioning. If you have a pet, it is welcome. It’s one of the few accommodations in Gozo that accepts pets, for an additional fee. Honestly, if you want an authentic, hassle-free stay, you’ll be happy!
Triesti Home
Another gem in Victoria, even more in the city center! Here, you’ll be at the foot of all amenities: restaurants, buses, supermarkets, Citadel. It’s a stone building with clean, well-equipped studios. I admit, the décor is rather old-fashioned, with local touches, but that’s part of its charm. Here, no extra fees for options: even though it’s economical, everything is included!
The practical location and comfort of the place are perfect for spending a few days (or more) in Gozo!

Forty Three #1, 2
Forty Three #1, 2 is another well-placed option if you want a central, practical, and quiet stay. The apartment is 20m², but it’s well arranged for solo or couple vacations. Clearly, its location is its main asset: next to all shops, restaurants, and transport.
Moreover, the host’s welcome is great: they are very accommodating and give very good advice! In terms of amenities, everything is there: air conditioning, washing machine, modern and complete kitchen. We agree, it’s not luxury, but the studio offers a very good value for money. It’s worth it!
