We spent six years living in French Polynesia, and Taha’a is one of those islands we still love recommending. In this article, I’m going to share our guide to the hotels and guesthouses in Tahaa. It is an island we really like, especially if you are looking for somewhere authentic, peaceful, and away from the busiest tourist spots. Among the Leeward Islands, Taha’a is one of our favorites, along with Maupiti.
To give you a better feel for the island, Taha’a is nicknamed the “Vanilla Island” because of its many vanilla plantations. It lies between Bora Bora and Raiatea, with which it shares a beautiful lagoon. It is simply a little piece of paradise, with motus, gorgeous beaches, and mountains all around.
Just to be clear, I am not going to cover what to see and do on the tropical island of Tahaa here, because I have already written a full article about that.
The goal of this guide is to share our recommendations for accommodation on Tahaa. As always, I had to make choices because I could not include everything. To give you a real feel for the island, I have focused on places we tried with Mélanie and the kids, or places recommended by friends and family.
- 4x4 tour to discover Taha'a : If you do not plan to rent a car on the island, this is a great way to see Taha'a and visit some of its must-sees, from vanilla plantations to pearl farms.
- Lagoon tour from Taha'a : A half-day boat trip with snorkeling to explore the lagoon. Coral, colorful fish, manta rays and more: it is exactly the kind of outing that makes Taha'a so special.
- Quad biking : It is a change from the usual lagoon excursions, with a bit of adventure and a chance to discover the island from the inside. I think you will love it!
- Combined 4x4 and Jet Ski excursion : Even though I am not usually a big fan of jet skiing, I have to admit this is a good full-day option. You get to enjoy both the land and lagoon sides of Taha'a.

The best hotels in Tahaa: luxury and comfort in a paradise setting
If you prefer staying in a hotel on Tahaa, or even in an overwater bungalow, there are only a handful of hotel-style properties on the island. They offer a higher level of comfort, beautiful settings, and services that are clearly a step above a classic guesthouse. Of course, it is not the cheapest option. But if you want to treat yourself for a few nights, it can be worth it. Here are the three places I would look at first.

Le Taha'a by Pearl Resorts
I’ll start with this magnificent hotel, where we were lucky enough to spend a three-day weekend. To be honest, the setting is simply idyllic, and yes, you can sleep in one of those famous overwater suites. We had one facing Bora Bora, the famous Pearl of the Pacific, and I will let you imagine the view at sunset. Inside, the suite had a beautiful Polynesian-inspired feel, a spacious bathroom, comfortable beds, and, of course, a terrace overlooking the lagoon.
The resort has several restaurants and bars, and we really enjoyed the food and cocktails. There is also an infinity pool, a spa, a fitness room, and plenty to enjoy the postcard-perfect setting. As you can imagine, we loved our stay there. It is clearly one of the best places to stay in Tahaa if you want a high-end experience. If it fits your budget, go for it, and book well in advance. Eden Private Island
For the record, this hotel used to be known as La Pirogue Api. Today, Eden Private Island Taha’a keeps that intimate, almost Robinson Crusoe feel, but with real comfort. The property sits on Motu Moute, on the edge of the lagoon, in a peaceful setting. There are only a few spacious traditional bungalows, with direct access to the lagoon and views toward either Bora Bora or Huahine depending on the unit.
Travelers often praise the tranquility of the place, the warm welcome, and the feeling of being far from everything. You will also find a private beach and a restaurant where you can enjoy local flavors. In short, Eden Private Island Tahaa is a lovely option if you want a quiet, intimate stay on a motu, whether as a couple or with family.
Vahine Private Island
This is another wonderful place to stay in Tahaa. To tell you the truth, Mélanie and I were supposed to try it in 2020, but Covid got in the way. Too bad, but maybe one day! In any case, the property has a very good reputation. Vahine Private Island is set on a private motu in the lagoon of Taha’a, with views opening toward Taha’a, Bora Bora, Raiatea, and Huahine. You are surrounded by coconut trees, white sand, and that deep blue lagoon everyone dreams about.
The address remains small and intimate, with nine bungalows and a royal villa, either by the sea or over the water. That is exactly the kind of place I usually love: refined, but still on a human scale. The restaurant focuses on Polynesian, Mediterranean, and local flavors, and the whole place is designed for people who want calm, privacy, and a beautiful island setting. If you are coming for a honeymoon or simply want to disconnect, this is clearly one of the most special stays in Tahaa.

Other accommodation in Tahaa: find the perfect option for your stay
As mentioned at the beginning of this article, there are many other accommodation options on Tahaa. Most are guesthouses or small lodges run by locals, and that is part of the charm. You get a warmer welcome, practical tips for exploring the island, and a more authentic feel than in a large hotel. Of course, the best choice depends on what you are looking for. Here is the selection I have made for you.
La Perle de Taha'a
This charming guesthouse is located in Tapu’amu, on the west side of Taha’a, facing the lagoon and the famous Coral Garden area. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed, and it is a great place to slow down for a few days. To set the scene, you get beautiful lagoon views and easy access to the surrounding activities.
Accommodation is divided into two main types of bungalows: smaller “Fleurs” bungalows for two people and larger “Archipels” bungalows that can host up to four people. Bikes and kayaks are available, which is a real plus for making the most of the area. In short, La Perle de Tahaa is a very good option if you want a friendly guesthouse in a great location, especially if you plan to explore the lagoon.
Pension Hibiscus Taha'a
I also recommend Pension Hibiscus Taha’a if you are looking for a warm, family-run guesthouse. We know it well. The pension is located in the Haamene area, in a quiet garden setting by the lagoon. It has several bungalows for couples, families, or small groups, with private bathrooms and the simple comfort you expect from a good Polynesian guesthouse.
You can have breakfast on site, and meals are part of the experience here, with local and French-inspired cuisine. From the pension, you can also organize outings around Taha’a, including to Motu Ceran. That is what we did, and we had a really nice time. The place has also been renovated in recent years, which is good to know. Overall, it is a reliable address if you want a friendly atmosphere, good value for money, and a stay that feels local.
Tiva Perl Lodge Taha'a
This is another small place to consider in Tiva, ideal if you want an authentic and peaceful stay. You will be close to the lagoon, in a setting that feels simple, comfortable, and local. The accommodation is well equipped, with air conditioning, a private bathroom, a kitchen area, a terrace, and a garden.
The little extra is the view: the large bay window opens onto the lagoon and the surrounding mountains. In other words, you will not be missing much. You can also ask about bikes or snorkeling gear to make the most of your stay. In my opinion, this guesthouse ticks the right boxes if you want to enjoy Tahaa without necessarily paying for a high-end hotel.
Morning Sun Place Tahaa
Located in Haamene, Morning Sun Place Tahaa is a pleasant option if you want an independent stay in a quiet setting. The accommodation is modern, comfortable, and fully air-conditioned, with a kitchen, private bathroom, terrace or outdoor space, and lovely views toward the ocean or lagoon depending on the unit.
It is the kind of place that works well if you want to relax, cook some of your own meals, and explore Taha’a at your own pace. Since you are in a peaceful part of the island, I would still recommend having a car or arranging transport so you can move around easily. With its calm atmosphere and comfortable facilities, Morning Sun Place Tahaa is a good base for a slow stay on the Vanilla Island.
Fare Pea Iti
Fare Pea Iti is a small, upscale lodge that combines tranquility with hotel-style services. It is located near Patio, on the lagoon side, and you can choose between garden and beach bungalows depending on your budget and the view you want. The categories vary from more classic options to higher-end bungalows, including Prestige & Spa-style stays.
One thing to keep in mind: reaching the lodge usually involves a boat transfer from Raiatea, which is part of the charm but needs to be planned. Once there, the setting is very peaceful, with the lagoon, a pool, and a more exclusive atmosphere. If you are looking for comfortable accommodation with a special feel, Fare Pea Iti is definitely worth considering.
Anavai Lodge
Anavai Lodge, in Tiva, is set in a peaceful landscape with a beautiful view over the bay. The lodge has only a few wooden bungalows, which helps keep the atmosphere intimate and quiet. You can usually choose between Garden and Deluxe-style options, mainly depending on the view and level of comfort.
The bungalows are spacious and comfortable, with private outdoor spaces, and some options include a private pool. As for activities, there is plenty to enjoy around the lodge, from kayaking and snorkeling to exploring the island by bike. In short, Anavai Lodge is a very good option if you are looking for a peaceful stay with a higher level of comfort than a classic guesthouse.
Pension Titaina
Head to the south of the island, facing Raiatea. Pension Titaina offers three Polynesian-style bungalows in a large 4,000 m² tropical garden. The accommodation is simple, comfortable, and well suited to a peaceful stay. The hosts pay attention to the little details that make you feel welcome, and they also prepare generous Polynesian meals.
In my opinion, the main appeal of this guesthouse is its calm atmosphere and its local feel. It is a good place to stay if you want to enjoy Tahaa away from the island’s small tourist hubs, even though “crowds” are always relative on Tahaa. This is a good family-run address, appreciated for its garden setting, its proximity to the lagoon, its hosts, and its friendly atmosphere.
Moana Beach Taha'a
Moana Beach Taha’a is all about simplicity, conviviality, and a peaceful stay by the lagoon. With its “Beach” and “Horizon” bungalows, this address offers a traditional Polynesian setting right by the sea. The bungalows are charming and comfortable, with that relaxed island feel you come to Taha’a for.
You also have access to the beach, making it easy to go snorkeling, kayaking, paddling, or simply enjoy the view. The location is convenient too, with nearby pearl farms and the Mana’o rum distillery among the places you can visit on the island. With its lagoonfront setting and comfortable bungalows, Moana Beach Taha’a is a good option for spending a few peaceful days on the island.
Royal Camping
If you are feeling a bit more adventurous after looking at guesthouses and lodges, Royal Camping can be an interesting option. You have a reserved area to pitch your tent and sleep under the stars. Tents are not provided, so you need to bring your own. As for facilities, there is a fully equipped kitchen for preparing meals, hot showers, and an outdoor dining area. If you do not feel like cooking, which I completely understand on vacation, you can usually ask about breakfast and dinner for an extra fee.
Clearly, this is a simple and practical stay rather than a comfort-focused one. If that is the type of experience you are looking for, or if you want to keep your budget under control, Royal Camping can be a good option on Tahaa.
