For some time now, I’ve been writing about French Polynesia, which has been our home for the past 6 years! In this article, I’m going to tell you about the hotels and guesthouses in Tahaa. I have to admit that it’s an island that we really like and recommend if you’re looking for an authentic, peaceful island away from the tourist crowds. Compared to other islands in the Leeward Islands, Tahaa is one of our favourites, along with Maupiti.
To tell you a little more about it and make you want to go, Tahaa is nicknamed ‘Vanilla Island’ because of its many vanilla plantations. It lies between Bora Bora and Raiatea, with which it shares a beautiful lagoon. It’s quite simply a little piece of paradise, with motus, sublime beaches and beautiful mountains all around.
Just to warn you, I’m not going to tell you what to see and do on the tropical island of Tahaa, because I’ve already written a whole article about it!
Anyway, the purpose of this article is to give you all our recommendations for accommodation on Tahaa. As always, I had to make choices because I couldn’t cover everything here! To give you a real feel for the place, I’ve chosen the accommodations that we’ve tried with Mélanie and the kids, or that we’ve heard good things about from our friends and family.

- 4x4 excursion to discover Taha'a : If you don't plan to rent a car on the island, this is an excellent way to visit the island while passing by its must-sees: vanilla plantations, pearl farms, etc.
- Excursion to the lagoon from Taha'a : A half-day boat trip and snorkelling to explore the bottom of the lagoon. You'll see coral, colourful fish, manta rays and more!
- Quad biking : It's a change from the usual excursions, but adds a bit of adventure and allows you to discover Tahaa from the inside. Without getting ahead of myself, I'm sure you'll love it!
- Combined 4x4 and Jet Ski excursion : Although I'm not a fan of jet skiing, I have to admit that it's a good activity to do in a full day. It allows you to enjoy both the land and sea sides of Tahaa!
If you’re looking for other places to stay in the islands, I invite you to check out our guide to where to stay in Polynesia. You’ll find all our recommendations for hotels and guesthouses on all the islands of Polynesia.

The best hotels in Tahaa: Luxury and comfort in a paradise setting
If you prefer to stay in a hotel on the island of Tahaa (perhaps even on an overwater bungalows), at the time of writing there are only three establishments that can be considered hotels. These establishments offer high quality services and exceptional comfort! It’s not cheap, but if you want to treat yourself, it’s worth it! Well, I won’t keep you waiting any longer and will let you discover the three establishments.

We decided to make your life easier by creating our own travel guide, where everything is organized, categorized, and summarized. Save research time and start traveling already!
Yes, I'm interested!

Taha'a by Pearl Resorts
I’ll start with this magnificent hotel, where we were lucky enough to stay for a 3-day weekend! To be honest, the setting is simply idyllic and you can even sleep in the famous overwater bungalows. On our side we had the one overlooking Bora Bora (the famous Pearl of the Pacific). I’ll leave you to imagine the view and the sunsets. To give you more details about the interior of the suite, the decor is inspired by Polynesian style, the bathroom is spacious, the beds are comfortable and the little must: a small terrace overlooking the lagoon.
There are three restaurants and two bars. Trust me, the food and cocktails are very good! And that’s not all: there’s an infinity pool, a spa, a gym and a tennis court. It’s all there for you to enjoy in postcard perfect surroundings! As you can imagine, we loved our stay at this hotel, which is clearly one of the best places to stay in Tahaa. If you want to treat yourself, go for it. In fact, I’d advise you to book well in advance to avoid disappointment! Don’t hesitate to read our review of this hotel. The hotel has also been renovated since our visit!
Eden Private Island
For the record, this 4-star hotel used to be called La Pirogue Api. This place is well known locally: I’ve heard nothing but good things! It’s in a heavenly setting on Motu Moute, on the edge of a turquoise lagoon. Here you can choose between several bamboo bungalows overlooking the sea and the sunrise or sunset (it’s up to you!). Travellers particularly appreciate the tranquillity of the place and the first class service.
Speaking of services, you’ll have access to a beautiful private white sandy beach, a spa and, above all, restaurants where you can sample the local flavours! In fact, I recommend you try the raw fish in coconut milk (you’ll tell me!). In a nutshell, Eden Private Island Tahaa is the ideal place for a getaway to Tahaa, with the family or as a couple!
Vahine Island Resort & Spa
This is a great place to stay in Tahaa! To tell you the truth, Mélanie and I were supposed to try the hotel in 2020, but unfortunately the Covid came along… It’s a real shame, but well, maybe one day, who knows? Anyway, I can tell you that the hotel has a very good reputation on the island. As for the location, it’s on the Tuvahine motu in Tahaa. You’re on the edge of a beautiful lagoon, on a beach of fine sand, surrounded by coconut palms and palm trees (what a dream!). You can choose from nine bungalows: beach bungalow, overwater bungalow, royal suite, etc. It’s a structure that remains small and intimate, which is the kind of accommodation I prefer!
The hotel’s restaurant offers a wide variety of cuisines: Polynesian, Mediterranean and more! Enough to make your taste buds travel! To relax, you’ll have access to a spa with top quality treatments. Whether you’re coming for your honeymoon or just to relax, in my opinion, this hotel in Tahaa is a gem not to be missed!

Other accommodation in Tahaa: Find the perfect option for your stay
As mentioned at the beginning of this article, there are many options for accommodation on Tahaa. There are mainly guesthouses run by locals who are always happy to welcome you and give you their best addresses and tips for visiting this small Polynesian island. Personally, I think it always adds an authentic touch to your stay! Of course, it all depends on what you’re looking for. Here is the selection I’ve made for you.

La Perle Taha'a
This charming establishment is located in Tapu’amu, on the seafront opposite Bora Bora. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed. It’s a great place to recharge your batteries! To set the scene, you’ll have breathtaking views of the crystal clear lagoon and its coral garden. As for accommodation, there are two types of comfortable, well-equipped bungalows. The main difference between the two is the size: the first, ‘Fleur’, sleeps 2, while the second, ‘Archipelago’, sleeps 4. Bikes and kayaks are available to make the most of the surroundings. In short, La Perle Tahaa is an excellent choice for spending a few days or more on the island of Tahaa.
La pension Hibiscus
I invite you to discover this family run guesthouse (which we know well) if you’re looking for warm, friendly accommodation. It’s located in the heart of Vaitoare, in an idyllic setting overlooking a beautiful bay. There are several bungalows for 3 to 10 people! Good to know if you’re travelling with a group! What’s more, each air-conditioned accommodation (in this tropical climate, trust me, you’ll need it!) has a terrace overlooking a lush garden. As for eating out, you can have breakfast on site, and there’s also a generous buffet for other meals, offering local and French cuisine (we had a great time). For your information, you can use this pension to go to Motu Ceran. That’s what we did and it was quite nice. As you can see, we had a great time at this guesthouse and what’s more, it offers good value for money. In fact, it’s recently been reviewed based on the information we received!
Tiva Perl Lodge Tahaa
This is another guesthouse in Vaitoare, ideal for an authentic and warm experience. You’ll be right on the edge of a beautiful white sandy beach. You’ll find a pretty, well-appointed chalet with air-conditioning, en-suite bathroom, kitchen, terrace and garden… it’s all there! The little extra: a large bay window with stunning views of the lagoon and mountains. In other words, you won’t want for anything! You can even ask to borrow bikes or snorkelling gear. In my opinion, this guesthouse ticks all the boxes for making the most of Tahaa.
Morning Sun Place Tahaa
Located in Haamene, Morning Sun Place Tahaa is a pleasant lodge offering two types of accommodation, each with its own private entrance. Whether you’re with friends or family, you’ll enjoy the peace and quiet! As an added bonus, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views over the turquoise lagoon. The accommodation is fully equipped with air conditioning, television, kitchenette and private bathroom with balcony or terrace. You can simply relax and enjoy the scenery. Quite tempting, isn’t it?
As far as activities are concerned, being by the sea, I recommend you try snorkelling. The water is so transparent that even from the surface you can see tropical fish, coral and much more! With its peaceful atmosphere and services, Morning Sun Place Tahaa is the ideal place to unwind and explore Tahaa at your own pace.
Fare Pea Iti
Fare Pea Iti is a small establishment that perfectly combines tranquillity with hotel-style services. You can choose your bungalow according to the number of people in your group and especially according to the view (sea or garden). There are also different options depending on the bungalow you choose: Prestige and Spa, Luxury or Traditional. A word of warning: to get to the lodge, you’ll have to take a boat across the lagoon (always a fun way to get there!). If you’re looking for exclusive, comfortable accommodation, this lodge is the place to be!
Anavai Lodge
Anavai Lodge in Tiva is set in a paradisiacal landscape. It offers two types of bungalows: Garden and Deluxe. The real difference between the two is the view: garden or sea. I’d advise you to go for the sea view, as the price is only slightly higher (about ten euros more per night). In any case, both bungalows are spacious and comfortable, with a private terrace and swimming pool. As for activities, there’s plenty to do: kayaking, snorkelling and bikes are all available. In short, this lodge is perfect if you’re looking for peaceful accommodation with first class facilities.

Pension Titaina
Head to the south of the island, just opposite Raiatea! This guesthouse offers three bungalows in the heart of a huge 4,000m² garden. Accommodation is simple but comfortable. The hosts take care of every detail to make you feel at home. They also prepare delicious Polynesian dishes. I recommend that you take this opportunity to take your taste buds on a journey! In my opinion, the best thing about this guesthouse is that it can accommodate up to 10 people. So you can enjoy a peaceful stay away from the ‘tourist crowds’ (which are certainly relative on the island of Tahaa). This is a good guesthouse in Tahaa, appreciated for its idyllic location, its proximity to the lagoon, its hosts and its friendly atmosphere.
Pension Moana Beach
This guesthouse is all about conviviality and tranquility! Enjoy a peaceful vacation on Tahaa. With its “Beach” and “Horizon” bungalows, this guesthouse offers an authentic setting. Built in the Polynesian style, the bungalows are charming and comfortable. Plus, you’ll have access to a private beach! It’s the perfect place to go fishing, snorkeling, kayaking or paddling. And for even more activities, you’re close to the Mana’o rum factories and a pearl farm. With its convenient location and comfortable bungalows, we’re sure you’ll love spending a few days at Moana Beach Resort.
Royal Camping
If you’re feeling a bit adventurous after the guesthouses and lodges, I can recommend Royal Camping. You’ll have a reserved area to pitch your tent and sleep under the stars! Tents are not provided, so you’ll need to bring your own. As for facilities, you’ll have a fully equipped kitchen to prepare your own meals, showers with hot water and an outdoor dining area. If you’re too lazy to cook (which I can understand, especially on holiday, ahah), you can ask for breakfast and dinner for a small fee.
We agree that this campsite offers a simple but practical holiday. If that’s the type of stay you’re looking for, or if you want to save money, Royal Camping is a good option!
