Even though it’s been a few years since we lived in Polynesia with Melanie and the kids (we left at the end of 2021), I realise that I haven’t written any articles about accommodation in Rangiroa. To tell you the truth, there aren’t many hotels in Rangiroa. Mostly you’ll be able to stay in guesthouses, secluded spots in dreamy surroundings or campsites. I know that Rangiroa attracts a lot of travellers, as I get emails every day with enquiries.
It’s true that Rangiroa is one of the best known atolls in the Tuamotus; it’s ideal for scuba diving in turquoise waters to explore the seabed (corals, manta rays, tiger sharks, hammerhead sharks), which we had the opportunity to experience during one of our stays on the atoll. One thing’s for sure: you’ll have plenty to discover! And let’s not forget the atolls of Tikehau and Fakarava, which are “relatively” less known but well worth a visit!
As you can see, the aim of this article is to give you the best possible guidance for your stay in Rangiroa. Of course, all our recommendations are based on our personal experiences, our favourites and those of our friends and family. For more details on accommodation in Rangiroa (and all the islands in the region) I suggest you check out our travel guide.

- Explore the Blue Lagoon : a great excursion not to be missed!
- Explore Reef Island : a must do!
- Cruise the Green Lagoon : a great way to discover little corners of paradise!
- Swim with dolphins : a unique experience to get up close and personal with these marine animals!
If you’re thinking of visiting other islands during your stay (it’s obvious, isn’t it?), we’ve put together a guide to hotels and guesthouses on the island of Tahaa. Feel free to browse our articles to help you choose your accommodation in Fakarava.

Rangiroa hotels
As I mentioned, there aren’t many hotels on Rangiroa. To be precise, there are two, and they are rather upmarket. If you’re looking for a luxurious, comfortable experience, a 4 or 5 star accommodation is the ideal option! On the other hand, there are no high-end accommodations on Fakarava, and there aren’t many on Tikehau. I promise I’ll tell you all about it in other articles!

Kia Ora Resort & Spa
Located in Avatoru, this upscale hotel offers a heavenly setting: on the edge of a white sandy beach, overlooking a turquoise lagoon. Accommodation options include bungalows on stilts, villas with private pools and beachfront bungalows. A word of advice: if you opt for a bungalow on stilts, choose the one at the end of the pontoon for an unobstructed view. As for the facilities, the spa and indoor pool are perfect for a relaxing stay! I personally haven’t had the chance to stay at this hotel, but I have many friends who have. Their opinions are unanimous: the location is convenient, the setting is heavenly and the services are of the highest quality. You can walk there with your eyes closed!
Maitai Rangiroa
Rangiroa’s second luxury hotel, nestled between the villages of Avatoru and Tiputa on the shores of a magnificent lagoon, welcomes you to a setting that is simply magnificent! The hotel offers comfortable Polynesian-style bungalows. This time we’re not talking about bungalows on stilts, but bungalows overlooking the lagoon or the garden. If you’re looking for a luxury experience with a touch of authenticity, you can enjoy Polynesian dishes (raw fish) and Polynesian dance lessons. Personally, I think it’s pretty cool! I’ve also had some feedback from friends about this hotel: the location is top class, the service is top class, and kayaks and diving equipment are free. In other words, you can choose this charming hotel without hesitation!
In fact, we were lucky enough to stay at the Maitai in Bora Bora. Don’t hesitate to read our full article to get a feel for the place!

To tell you the truth, I’ve heard great things about this guesthouse, with its warm welcome and convenient location for visiting the island.
Pension Tiputa Lodge Rangiroa
A new guesthouse in Tiputa, set in beautiful surroundings with a private beach. You’ll enjoy modern, fully equipped studios. As a bonus, they have lovely terraces overlooking the sea. Special mention for the breakfast, which is much appreciated by travellers (plus points for gourmets!). As a bonus, Henri, the host, is much appreciated for his advice on local activities and his warm welcome. If you ask me, this is a guesthouse where you’ll really feel at home.
Rangiroa Cottage
Rangiroa Cottage is a beautiful property situated just metres from the sandy beach. Here you can choose between two air-conditioned bungalows (trust me, in the sweltering island heat, that’s sometimes a plus!) One of the bungalows is fully furnished! We spent 4 days here at Chez Olga Guesthouse and loved it!
