Recently, I decided to put together several accommodation guides on our beautiful archipelago, like the one on lodges and ecolodges in Guadeloupe. This time, I’m bringing you an article on unusual accommodations in Guadeloupe. I can tell you there are quite a few that are worth a look. The quirky side is attracting more and more travelers, and it makes sense! It’s a plus for creating great memories and getting off the beaten path. I also find it’s a good base for enjoying activities in Guadeloupe: hiking to waterfalls, through tropical forests, up to the Soufrière volcano… Not to mention black or white sand beaches, with turquoise water worthy of the Caribbean.
As for us, we set our bags down here a few years ago, and I can tell you there’s plenty to do. Diving, snorkeling, paddleboarding, boat trips, sailing and more! Over time, we’ve also taken advantage of it to test several accommodations. As always, I based this article on our own experience or that of our loved ones to put together this piece on the best unusual accommodations in Guadeloupe. You don’t come here every day; it’s still a long trip. So we understand that you don’t want to make a mistake. Or even that you want to stay in an unusual accommodation!
Since then, we have also written an article on the best seaside hotels in Guadeloupe, so feel free to take a look.
The best places for an unusual stay in Guadeloupe
To find YOUR unusual accommodation in Guadeloupe, I suggest first looking at the two main islands:
- Grande-Terre: it’s the most touristy area of the archipelago, where the scenery ranges from turquoise water to cliffs. There are more and more unusual accommodations in Saint-François, Sainte-Anne or on the edge of a mangrove near Le Gosier. They offer unique experiences, but also magnificent views of Pointe des Châteaux.
- Basse-Terre: it’s been our home since we arrived in Guadeloupe (it’s already been 4 years!). Here, the atmosphere is calmer. You find yourself among jungle, rivers, waterfalls, a volcano… You’ll surely find what you’re looking for around Deshaies or Bouillante, perhaps with a panoramic view of La Soufrière!
And for a postcard-worthy escape, head to Les Saintes. The setting is just superb, with breathtaking landscapes!
There you go, that was to give you a first overview of the best places to stay in an unusual accommodation in Guadeloupe. It can also help you prepare your itinerary on the Guadeloupe archipelago!
The best unusual accommodations in Guadeloupe
You’re in the middle of planning your trip to Guadeloupe and want to move beyond classic accommodations? You’re in the right place! You should know that Guadeloupe has more and more of them. Between treehouses perched in the trees, an original Creole cottage, a boat, a tiny house… the idea is to discover Guadeloupe differently: facing the lagoon, at nature’s pace and more!
Of course, they come in different standards: from high-end to entry-level. In any case, we’ve prepared a carefully curated selection for all tastes and all budgets!

High-end unusual accommodations in Guadeloupe: between luxury and originality
To make unusual rhyme with great comfort, know that there are lovely addresses that combine a unique experience with high-quality services. The accommodations are built with beautiful materials, the views are incredible and the service is impeccable. We agree: it’s still a budget. But it’s a chance to treat yourself with an atypical stay. Alright, I’ll let you discover these exceptional unusual accommodations!
Aqua Lodge
Discover Aqua Lodge, set right in the middle of the Saint-François lagoon, about 1 km from Raisins Clairs Beach! This floating house lives up to its name. Plus, it’s eco-friendly (powered by solar energy, for good autonomy). If you’re already tempted, rest assured, you don’t need a license to reach the marina. Inside, you’ll find two bedrooms, a living room, an equipped kitchen, a bathroom, two terraces and a barbecue.
On site, you’ll even have access to a private beach, a swimming area and parking on land. To explore this magnificent setting, on board you’ll find kayaks, paddleboards and snorkeling gear (fins, masks and snorkels). Honestly, with Aqua Lodge, you’ll have an unusual stay: a stunning setting at your feet, the freedom to live on a boat, away from the noise. Dreamy, right? Except for those who get seasick, haha.
Gite du Manial ``Cabane du sentier des étoiles``
Back on land with the “Cabane du sentier des étoiles” in Pointe-Noire. More precisely, you’ll be in the heart of a lush garden, very close to Malendure and the Saut d’Acomat. This all-wood chalet is designed to accommodate up to 4 people. It includes one bedroom, two twin beds in the living room, a balcony/terrace, a full kitchen and, above all, a view of the garden and the mountain.
In this wooden cabin, you’ll be up in the trees, with a footbridge leading to a platform to admire sunsets or the stars! It’s truly a natural setting with a peaceful vibe. You’ll see, you’ll live to the rhythm of the birds and… the geckos. In short, this cabin in the woods is a very nice option to completely disconnect and create beautiful memories.
Villa Nature caraïbe lodge, sea view, private pool
Set course for Deshaies to stay in this villa overlooking the sea! It’s just a few hundred meters from the beaches of Petite Anse, Leroux and Ferry. It’s truly huge (165 m²), while being open to the outside. It has a bright living room, an ultra-modern kitchen, two bathrooms and a large terrace. The pluses: it’s surrounded by a tropical garden with a private pool and a barbecue.
What makes it unique is its lush garden, into which it fits super well. The panoramic sea view is ideal for sunsets. Basically, you’ll have all this setting just for you. You can enjoy an unusual stay with family or friends, while being independent.
Au Jardin Des Colibris Ecolodge&Spa
In Deshaies, we had the chance to stay at Jardin des Colibris! Know that we had a real crush on this ecolodge that blends perfectly into its natural setting. To situate you, you’ll be very close to the Botanical Garden and the beaches of Grande Anse and La Perle. Here, you can sleep in wooden cottages, treehouses or villas (some even with a private pool). We tested a Creole cottage with a large terrace, a hammock, a private kitchen and the highlight of the show: an open-air shower!
We were great there as a family! We also visited the other unusual accommodations which simply made us want to come back! We’ll keep you posted. In any case, we really loved our unusual stay on site and we can only recommend it! Plus, the little touches from the hosts, Floria and Matthieu, also make a difference.
If you want more info on this superb ecolodge, I advise you to read our full review of Jardin des Colibris.

Le Domaine du Rocher Noir
This time, we’re heading to Pointe-Noire, on the Côte-sous-le-vent with Domaine du Rocher Noir! You’ll arrive at an intimate lodge surrounded by vegetation! Plus, you’ll be close to Malendure and the Route de la Traversée. You’ll be in independent bungalows for 2 to 5 people with a terrace, a modern kitchen and an unobstructed view of the sea or the mountains (some even have a private jacuzzi).
In the estate, you’ll have access to an infinity pool with the panorama to match! There’s also a bar and a dining service with a local partner. Here, what stands out is the privacy with no overlooking neighbors, the sunsets and the feeling of recharging. In short, it’s an estate that offers a truly unusual experience!

Mid-range unusual accommodations in Guadeloupe: the best compromise
For a bit of originality at a reasonable price, I’ve unearthed several mid-range unusual accommodations in Guadeloupe. I think it’s the perfect compromise between experience and good comfort. I won’t say more: I’ll let you discover unusual accommodations with excellent feedback!

West Indies Cottage
Still in Pointe-Noire, West Indies Cottage is a mini tropical estate close to the beaches of Caraïbe and Marigot! Here, what makes the difference is that you’ll have a choice among several unusual accommodations: quirky treehouses, caravans, a mill, bungalows… They’re all air-conditioned, with a terrace and a kitchenette. Plus, you can enjoy a pool nestled in lush greenery, with a large garden and a barbecue.
In the end, it feels like a little paradise! You can even try several atypical accommodations within the same estate.
Lodge Coco
High above Deshaies, Lodge Coco unveils an incredible sea view! You’ll be a few kilometers from Grande Anse and the village. It’s an apartment that opens onto a large covered terrace (that’s what gives it all its charm!). As for amenities, there are 3 bedrooms with air conditioning and a bathroom with a hot tub. In the residence, you’ll also have a pool and a jacuzzi, hidden in tropical vegetation.
It’s that feeling of indoor-outdoor living that makes Lodge Coco unique. I’d even say it’s a real change of scenery. Not to mention the great welcome from the hosts!
Rêve Et Alizé - Charming gîtes
In Bouillante, Rêve & Alizé sits in a vast tropical park bordered by the Bourceau River. You’ll find Creole lodges with a terrace and an equipped kitchen, in complete privacy. In terms of facilities, the pool is tucked into the greenery, with a solarium and a relaxation area. What’s great is the feeling of sleeping in the heart of nature with a warm welcome. There’s even a walk from the estate to a superb waterfall!
Not to mention the location is ideal for loading up on activities in Guadeloupe. To give you ideas, you can go snorkeling in Malendure, visit the hot baths of Bouillante and more! In short, it’s a safe bet for an original stay for two or with family!
L'Îlot Palmiers
In Pointe-Noire, L’Îlot Palmiers brings together several wooden bungalows in a tropical expanse: among palm trees, coconut trees and mango trees, all with a large pool. You’ll be in a peaceful setting, very close to Marigot Beach and the coves of the Côte-sous-le-Vent. Whichever accommodation you choose, it’s air-conditioned, independent and very well equipped (terrace or balcony, outdoor kitchen). Some even offer a magnificent sea view!
What travelers particularly love is the elegant “cabin” atmosphere in the heart of tropical vegetation. For example, you can have breakfast with the birds on the terrace! Between us, it’s an excellent choice for setting off to discover Basse-Terre.
Les Cabanes Perchées
High above Bouillante, Les Cabanes Perchées lives up to its name! To give you an idea, there are several wooden bungalows as well as a villa overlooking the sea. In all cases, the accommodations are well equipped and designed for settling in and enjoying the setting. The residence also includes a pool and a lush garden!
What’s more, the spot is ideal: a few minutes by car from Malendure Beach and the Cousteau Reserve. The welcome is great, with an arrival tray that sets the tone and valuable tips! I almost forgot: each accommodation’s kitchen is open to make the most of the outdoors! In short, this establishment is perfect for vacationers seeking nature.
Insolite Ara Wakan / Ma cabane
In Pointe-Noire, Insolite Ara Wakan / Ma Cabane is a real treehouse perched in the trees. When you arrive, you climb the stairs and reach a wooden footbridge, surrounded by a huge palm tree. You’ll find a table and a barbecue for outdoor dining. Inside, it’s simple but well laid out, with an unusual bedroom, a cozy living room, a fully equipped kitchen and a private bathroom.
This unusual accommodation appeals to both couples and families, up to 4 people. However, since it’s elevated with stairs, it’s best to be careful with very young children. In the end, if you want a little nest in the jungle, I’m willing to bet you’ll love this cabin!
Île tropical lodges
In Sainte-Anne, as the name suggests, Île Tropical Lodges brings together several independent houses in a large tropical garden. As for location, you’ll be close to the beaches of Gros Sable and Bois Jolan. Each lodge includes one or two bedrooms with a terrace, a modern kitchen and a sitting area. That’s not all! You’ll also have a pool lined with palm trees, a cocktail bar, a barbecue and free private parking.
In this lodge, the quirky side lies in the feeling of being in a small village in the middle of a tropical forest! It’s different, and I think it’s a timeless experience to try!
