Only a few travellers in the world travel alone to Tanzania. Many come here for a discovery tour that usually includes a safari in the northwest of the country and a week to discover the beautiful paradisiacal beaches of the island of Zanzibar.
During my trip, I went with a local guide (Moses Cliff Mwanga) who I recommend 100% for a safari. This is a low budget safari (camping) and not in lodges. Confirm the entire stay beforehand with him.

Travel to Tanzania, a private opinion
Honestly, as far as I can remember, the African continent has always attracted me. I will have some difficulty explaining exactly why, most certainly the fact that the whole territory remains relatively off the beaten track. Even if mass tourism has arrived in some parts of Africa, many travellers still have this fear and apprehension of going there.
I personally had the privilege to discover a small part of Tanzania while living on the island of Mayotte in 2014. The occasion presented itself when flights opened up to the country. I already had this vision of the country, between the bush, discovering the countless animals, meeting the local population and relaxing in the turquoise waters by the Indian Ocean. In short, in my opinion, a unique experience to live and a good mix of exoticism.
However, a beautiful journey of this kind must be organized. Going on safari in the country’s many parks remains very expensive, even if it is done in a cheap way. Between the price of the international flight, the week of the safari in the northwest of the country, and last week on the beautiful beaches of the island of Zanzibar, the bill turned out to be quite expensive. No regrets, however.

The week spent discovering these breathtaking landscapes and all the animals will remain imprinted in me, that’s for sure. We leave our minds lying around in front of the immensity of this place and this wild land. Because, yes, Tanzania is one of Africa’s jewels in every respect, but the safari is not just about searching and observing animals for me. I still sometimes remember its large open areas, and in particular the Ngorongoro crater in the early morning which remains one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. The awakening of the wild fauna and flora in the early morning on this ancient volcano will remain in memory for a very long time. We were then located on the high plains of the country, at an altitude of more than 2000m and the nights were cool. But how beautiful it was when I woke up….
My experience in Tanzania was short if I can say with the visit of four national parks and a week in Zanzibar. I truly want to go back there to see the rest of the country. I had the desire when I lived in Mayotte to climb the famous Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest point in the country. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time. Maybe it’ll be for another occasion, who knows.
In the meantime, if you plan to discover the country on a safari, you can do it in luxury mode as well as in budget mode as we have done. We were camping every day in the parks, simple but copious meals. In short, we were thrilled.
I hope to go back.
