Even though we left French Polynesia a few years ago, we still receive more and more questions about accommodation there, and I completely understand why. You do not want to make the wrong choice, especially when a trip to French Polynesia often feels like a once-in-a-lifetime journey. That is why we keep writing about this dream destination, starting with this complete guide to hotels and guesthouses on the island of Huahine.
I have been to Huahine several times, both with my family and for work when we lived in French Polynesia. Personally, especially for a first trip to Polynesia, I find it a peaceful and fascinating island to discover. It is one of the famous Leeward Islands, and it is exactly the kind of place where you quickly feel at home. The island has managed to keep a very authentic atmosphere, which is one of the reasons I like it so much. I would recommend spending 3 or 4 days there, so you have time to explore, slow down and, above all, enjoy it.
I have already written a full article on Huahine, so I will not go into everything there is to see and do in this article. I know planning a trip is not always easy, so the goal here is simple: to help you understand where to stay in Huahine and choose the right place for your travel style.

- Do a 4x4 tour of the island : We did not get a chance to do this ourselves, but we have heard great feedback. It is a good way to explore Huahine in a single day!
- Electric bike rental : If you want to explore Huahine at your own pace, with an easier and more eco-friendly option, this is a great choice!
- Microlight flight over the island : I have already done a microlight flight, but over Bora Bora. It was incredible. Without exaggerating, it is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. In my opinion, it is an experience worth trying at least once.
I also recommend reading our guide to where to stay in French Polynesia. You will find all our recommendations for hotels and guesthouses across the main islands of Polynesia.
Still in the Leeward Islands, we have also written a useful article to help you choose where to stay in Tahaa, with both hotels and guesthouses.

The best hotels in Huahine: our selection
I should warn you right away: there are very few hotels in Huahine, and maybe that is part of the island’s charm. It helps preserve its authenticity, without turning everything toward tourism. In this section, I am focusing on two well-known hotel-style properties. They are among the more comfortable options on the island, before we move on to a wider selection of guesthouses.
Are you planning your trip to French Polynesia?
We decided to make your life easier by creating our own travel guide, where everything is organized, categorized, and summarized. Save research time and start traveling already!
Yes, I'm interested!

Hotel Le Mahana
Let’s start with a hotel we have tried and approved after several stays. Hotel Le Mahana is located in the far south of Huahine, in Avea Bay, one of the most beautiful areas of the island. You can choose between several Polynesian-style bungalows, including garden bungalows and lagoonfront options. In my opinion, the hardest part will be deciding which one to book.
The hotel sits beside a beautiful white-sand beach lined with coconut palms, with a clear lagoon and a coral garden right in front. You can enjoy snorkeling, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and other water activities directly from the property, and equipment is available on site. As you can see, we really enjoyed our stays at this hotel, and I can only recommend it if you want a comfortable place in a postcard-perfect setting.
Hotel Maitai Lapita Village Huahine
This is another key hotel option in Huahine. Maitai Lapita Village Huahine is located near Fare, the island’s main village, on the northwest coast. The hotel offers good comfort with a strong Polynesian touch, and that is exactly what gives it its charm. The property is set between a lake and the lagoon, with bungalows inspired by traditional Polynesian canoe houses.
There are several categories, including garden bungalows and lake bungalows, some with private pools. As for activities, you should have plenty to do: kayaking, snorkeling, cycling, walking tours and other activities are available depending on the season and conditions. With its practical location near Fare and its comfortable setting, Maitai Lapita Village is a very solid option for staying in Huahine.
Summary of the best hotels in Huahine
To help you choose between these two hotels in Huahine, I have prepared the summary table below. It brings together the main features of each place: location, services, highlights, price range and more. I know planning a trip is not always easy, so the goal is simply to make your decision easier.

During your trip to Polynesia, you will probably visit other islands as well. We have written an article listing the best hotels and guesthouses on the island of Raiatea, based on our experience and feedback. It should help you plan the next steps of your itinerary.
The best guesthouses in Huahine: authentic experiences
Let me reassure you right away: unlike hotels, there are plenty of guesthouses in Huahine. You will therefore have more choice, especially if you are looking for a simpler, more local or more budget-friendly stay. In fact, there seem to be more and more options on the island, so I had to make a selection.
Below, you will find the guesthouses, pensions and villas that I consider the most interesting, either because I know them, because I have received good feedback, or because they offer a good balance between location, comfort and atmosphere. Of course, I cannot cover every option in this article.

Huahine Beach House
Located in Fare, Huahine Beach House is a very practical option if you want to be close to the village while staying by the sea. The property offers apartments and a beachfront bungalow, all with independent access and useful amenities such as a kitchenette, private bathroom, terrace or balcony, and either garden, sea or mountain views depending on the unit.
The big advantage is the location. You will be close to shops, restaurants, the village atmosphere and the little local food trucks. In short, this guesthouse has everything you need for an easy and comfortable stay in Huahine.
Fare Omoe
We stay in Fare with this comfortable holiday home. Fare Omoe is modern, welcoming and well equipped, with everything you need to feel at home. You also have access to a private beach area, which is always a real bonus in Huahine.
To give you a better idea, the house offers a spacious living area, two bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and a terrace. It is the kind of accommodation that works well if you want independence while still staying close to Fare. And as always, having friendly hosts who can share local advice makes the experience even better.
Mati House
Mati House is a great place to get away from it all for a few days. Located up in Fitii, it offers panoramic views over the lagoon and the neighboring islands in the distance. I will let you imagine the sunsets from the terrace.
Inside, you will find comfortable sleeping areas, a fully equipped kitchen and a pleasant living space. Based on the feedback I have received, the warm welcome from the hosts is one of the real highlights. In short, Mati House is a lovely option if you want to explore Huahine at your own pace, while enjoying a quieter setting above the lagoon.
Pension Tupuna
Pension Tupuna is located on the shores of Port Bourayne Bay, one of the most peaceful and scenic corners of Huahine. You feel almost alone in the world, surrounded by mountains and tropical vegetation. The pension offers several Polynesian-style bungalows set in a lush garden, with a simple, authentic and very relaxing atmosphere.
Food lovers should also enjoy it: the family-run restaurant is well known for its local cuisine, often based on fresh products from the island. It is a great opportunity to try Polynesian dishes, including raw fish in coconut milk. In short, this guesthouse is a beautiful place to slow down and enjoy a more authentic side of Huahine.
Le Spot
Located in Fare, Le Spot offers several spacious, well-equipped houses in a peaceful beachfront setting. Depending on the unit, you can enjoy a garden or ocean-side atmosphere, with a kitchen, living area, terrace and outdoor space.
This is exactly the kind of accommodation that works well for a stay with family or friends. You have room, independence and a great location by the sea, while remaining close to Fare and its practical facilities. At least you will not feel cramped.
Villa Maroe
As the name suggests, this villa is located in the heart of Maroe Bay. It is modern, comfortable and well equipped. You will find two bedrooms, a modern bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen and, to top it all off, a swimming pool and terrace.
The real highlight is the view over the lagoon from the terrace. Just imagine having breakfast in front of that scenery. If you want an independent stay with a peaceful setting and a beautiful view, Villa Maroe is a great option to keep in mind.

Te Fitii Garden & Beach
If you are looking for something a little different, Te Fitii Garden & Beach is worth a look. The idea here is to sleep in a simple Polynesian-style hut, surrounded by nature and close to a beautiful sandy beach. Do not worry, the hut is still spacious enough, haha.
The setting is peaceful, with a lovely atmosphere for enjoying the lagoon and watching the sunset. Reviews also often highlight the kindness and attention of the hosts. With its natural setting and more authentic feel, this is the kind of accommodation that can leave you with very good memories of Huahine.
Fare Ara Location
Fare Ara Location is a charming guesthouse in Fare, not far from the island’s main facilities. You can choose between different types of rooms or units, depending on what you need. The accommodations are simple but practical, with a private bathroom, terrace, outdoor seating area and access to useful kitchen facilities.
A nice touch: fresh bread is often provided in the morning, which is always appreciated. If you want to explore Huahine, you can also arrange bike or car rental on site. As you can see, Fare Ara Location is a practical and well-located option for a stay in Huahine.

Budget accommodation in Huahine: campgrounds and hostels
Let’s move on to budget accommodation in Huahine. As I mentioned earlier, I cannot list every option here. But if you are looking for cheaper places to stay, it is worth checking booking platforms directly, as availability and prices can change quickly.
For this article, I have selected two simple options, including one I know very well. They are better suited to smaller budgets and can help you enjoy Huahine without spending too much on accommodation.

Camping Hiva Plage
This is a campsite I know well, as I have stayed there several times, both with my family and for work. Let me warn you right away: this is not a luxury campsite. The experience is simple and down-to-earth, but the setting is absolutely beautiful, facing a white-sand beach and turquoise lagoon.
If you do not want to sleep under the stars, the campsite also offers simple rooms by the sea. Honestly, if you are looking for an authentic, unpretentious stay at a reasonable price, with a stunning natural setting, Camping Hiva Plage is a very good option.
Alaroots Huahine
Let’s finish with a hostel by the sea. At Alaroots Huahine, you can choose between shared dorms and double rooms, depending on your budget and travel style. You will have access to shared kitchens, showers and common areas, which makes it easy to meet other travelers.
Travelers often appreciate the friendly atmosphere and the location near a beautiful white-sand beach. From there, you can enjoy the lagoon, go snorkeling, try paddleboarding or simply relax between two island discoveries. Between you and me, Alaroots Huahine is a good option if you want a simple, social and affordable way to discover Huahine.
Comparison of budget options for staying in Huahine
Here is the final summary table in this article, this time comparing the two more affordable accommodation options. As always, you will find the main information you need to help you decide.

Once again, if you have the time to explore Huahine, I really think you will not be disappointed. The island has a peaceful atmosphere, beautiful landscapes and plenty of activities, from snorkeling and diving to discovering the lagoon, coral reefs and marine life such as manta rays, blacktip reef sharks and turtles.
