Even though we’ve been away from French Polynesia for a few years now, we still get more and more requests for advice on accommodation, and understandably so. You don’t want to make any mistakes, and you want to make the best choice, because a stay in French Polynesia is like a trip of a lifetime. That’s why we continue to write about this heavenly destination with this comprehensive guide to hotels and guesthouses on the island of Huahine.
I’ve been there a few times, with my family and for work when we lived there, to tell you a little more about the island. Personally, especially for a first visit to Polynesia, I find it a really peaceful and interesting island to discover. It’s one of the famous Leeward Islands. It’s the kind of island where you feel at home and which has kept all its authenticity. I would advise you to spend 3 or 4 days there, to take your time, to visit it and, above all, to enjoy it!
I’ve already written a full article on Huahine, so I won’t be talking about things to do and see in this article. I know it’s not always easy to organise a trip, so the aim here is to give you a good idea of where to stay in Huahine!

- Do a 4x4 tour of the island : We didn't get a chance to do this, but we've heard great things about it. I think it's a great way to explore Huahine in a day!
- Electric bike hire : If you want to explore Huahine at your own pace and with an eco-friendly twist, then this is for you!
- Microlight flight over the island : I've been on a microlight flight before, but over Bora Bora (the famous Pearl of the Pacific). Let me tell you, it was incredible! Without exaggerating, it's one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in my life! Personally, I think it's an experience you should have at least once in your life.
I recommend you read our guide to accommodation in Polynesia to help you find the best place to stay. You’ll find all our recommendations for hotels and guesthouses on all the islands of Polynesia.
Staying in the Leeward Islands, we’ve written a nice article to help you choose where to stay in Tahaa (hotels and guesthouses).

The best hotels in Huahine: our selection
I should warn you: there are very few hotels in Huahine, and maybe that’s for the best, don’t you think? I think it helps to preserve the charm and authenticity of the island without changing everything for the sake of tourism. That’s why I’m going to introduce you to two establishments. They’re rather ‘upmarket’, if you can put it that way. After that, I’ve prepared a good list of guesthouses.
Are you planning your trip to French Polynesia?
We decided to make your life easier by creating our own travel guide, where everything is organized, categorized, and summarized. Save research time and start traveling already!
Yes, I'm interested!

Hotel Le Mahana
Let’s start with a hotel that we have tested and approved after several stays! To give you an idea of its location, it’s in the very south of the island. There are several Polynesian-style bungalows to choose from. Of course, they come in different ranges depending on what you’re looking for: deluxe beachfront bungalows, garden bungalows and so on. In my opinion, the hardest part will be choosing! But I can tell you that the hotel overlooks a beautiful white sandy beach (with coconut palms) and a crystal clear lagoon. There’s a whole range of activities you can do there: snorkelling, kayaking, paddle boarding, scuba diving (and what’s more, the hotel lends you all the equipment you need). As you can see, we thoroughly enjoyed all our stays at this hotel and can’t recommend it highly enough!
Hotel Maitai Lapita Village Huahine
This is another one of Huahine’s must-visit hotels! This time it’s near the famous village of Fare on the north-west coast of the island. This hotel offers good comfort with a lovely Polynesian touch. In fact, I’d go as far as to say that’s what makes it so charming! Here you’ll find bungalows around a lake, inspired by Polynesian pirogue huts. As is often the case, there are different types of bungalows available: garden bungalows and premium bungalows (which have a private terrace with a view of the lake). As for activities, you’ll never be bored! The hotel provides kayaks, paddles and even fins and snorkels for snorkelling. With its truly convenient location and quality services, you can choose Maitai Lapita Village without hesitation!
Summary of the best hotels in Huahine
To help you choose between these two hotels in Huahine, I’ve prepared the following table, which summarises the main features of each. You’ll find the price, services, benefits and much more! I know it’s not always easy to organise a trip, so the aim is really to make things easier for you.
| Name | Location | Features | Review | Price | Booking |

| Hôtel Le Mahana | Parea | Sea view, private beach, good restaurant, friendly staff, water sports and outdoor pool. | You’ll love its idyllic seaside setting and the warm welcome from the staff. | €200 – €350 | Book |

During your stay in Polynesia, you’ll probably visit other islands as well. We’ve written an article listing the best hotels and guesthouses on the island of Raiatea (in our opinion). It’s sure to help you plan your trip.
The best guesthouses in Huahine: authentic experiences
Let me reassure you right away: unlike hotels, there are plenty of guesthouses in Huahine. So you’ve got plenty to choose from! You’re sure to find what you’re looking for. In fact, there are more and more on the island. I had to make a good choice. I’ve made a list of the pensions and villas that I think are the most interesting and on which I’ve had only good feedback! Of course, I won’t be able to cover all the possibilities in this article.

Huahine Beach House
Situated in the heart of Fare, this guesthouse offers a comfortable and peaceful stay. You’ll be right on the edge of a beautiful white sandy beach! There are two apartments and one bungalow. In all cases, the accommodation is well equipped: kitchenette, bathroom and, above all, a balcony with a view of the sea or the mountains (it’s up to you!). Another plus is that you’ll be close to all the facilities, shops, restaurants and Polynesian trailers. In short, this guesthouse has everything you need for a successful stay!
Fare Omoe
We’re staying at this holiday home in Fare! It’s modern and warm, with everything you need to feel at home! You’ve also got access to a private beach (always a bonus!). To give you more details, you’ll enjoy a beautiful 90m² space just for you, with king-size beds, a fully equipped kitchen, a living room and, as a bonus, a terrace. And that’s not all! It’s always nice to ask the locals for advice and the hosts are warm and welcoming!
Mati House
The perfect place to get away from it all for a few days, this chalet is located at the top of Fitii. You’ll love the panoramic views over the turquoise lagoon. You can even see the islands across the water in the distance! I’ll leave you to imagine the magnificent sunsets from the terrace of the chalet. In terms of facilities, you’ll have a bedroom with a king-size bed, a fully equipped kitchen and a spacious living room. According to the feedback I’ve received, the little plus of this accommodation is clearly the warm welcome from the hosts! In short, Mati House is ideal for exploring Huahine at your pace.
Pension Tupuna
Pension Tupuna is located in the heart of Port Bourayne Bay! You’ll be almost alone in the world, in the middle of the mountains. There are 4 bungalows. They are decorated in a typical Polynesian style. The guesthouse has a lush garden with tropical flowers (including the famous tiaré flower), ideal for relaxing. For those with a sweet tooth, the family-run restaurant has received nothing but good reviews. It’s a great opportunity to try some local dishes, such as raw fish in coconut milk (trust me, you’ll love it). In short, this guesthouse is a great place to recharge your batteries while enjoying the island of Huahine.
Le Spot
Located in Fare, Le Spot offers two villas (one beachfront and one garden-facing) and one two-bedroomed house. Whichever you choose, they’re all spacious and well equipped: kitchen, lounge and best of all, a terrace overlooking the ocean or garden. All in an idyllic setting! The accommodation at Le Spot is perfect for a stay with family or friends. The spacious layout means there’s plenty of room for everyone. At least you won’t feel cramped!
Villa Maroe
As the name suggests, this villa is located in the heart of Maroe Bay. It’s modern and well equipped! In fact, the villa has two large bedrooms, a modern bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen and to tops everything off, a swimming pool and terrace. As an added bonus, the terrace has stunning views over the turquoise lagoon. All you have to do is eat your breakfast in front of the breathtaking scenery! You’ll feel at home at Villa Maroe!

Te Fitii Garden & Beach
If you’re looking for an experience out of the ordinary, look no further! Te Fitii Garden & Beach offers you the chance to spend the night in a Polynesian hut. Don’t worry, the hut is quite big, haha! You’ll be right in the middle of nature, on a beautiful sandy beach, the perfect place to watch the sun go down over the lagoon. What’s more, the reviews are unanimous: the hosts really do take care of you! With its heavenly location and authentic atmosphere, I’m sure you’ll have fond memories of this accommodation.
Fare Ara Location
A charming guesthouse on Haamene Bay in Fare! You can choose from an apartment, studio or double room. Either way, the lodging has a kitchen, outdoor dining area and even a terrace ! As an added bonus, your hosts will provide you with fresh bread every morning (always an enjoyable treat). If you want to explore Huahine, you can hire bicycles on site. It’s a nice change of pace! Budget accommodation in Huahine: campgrounds and youth hostels
Let’s move on to budget accommodation in Huahine! As I said above, there is no way I can list them all here. But if you’re looking for cheap accommodation, I’d advise you to check out booking sites like Booking. For now, I’ve chosen two places to stay (one of which I know very well) that are suitable for a small budget, so you won’t have to break the bank!

Camping Hiva Plage
This is a campsite I know well, as I’ve stayed there several times, both with my family and for work. Well, I’d better warn you right away: this is not a luxury campsite. The experience is more down-to-earth, but the setting is simply stunning, overlooking a gorgeous white sandy beach and turquoise lagoon. I’ll let you imagine the view when you wake up! By the way, if you don’t want to sleep under the stars, the campsite also has simple rooms by the sea. Honestly, if you’re looking for an authentic, unpretentious holiday, at a good price and in the heart of a heavenly setting, you can close your eyes and choose this campsite!
Alaroots Huahine
Let’s move on to a youth hostel by the sea! Here you can choose between mixed dormitories and double rooms. You’ll have access to shared kitchens and showers. But that’s not all! There’s a common room with entertainment. It’s a great opportunity to meet up with other travellers, have a chat and share some good times. To tell you the truth, travellers appreciate the friendliness of the hostel and its location, right next to a beautiful white sandy beach. In other words, you won’t be bored! You can enjoy activities such as snorkelling, diving, paddle boarding and other water sports. Between you and me, Alaroots Huahine really is a great way to discover Huahine!
Comparison of budget options for staying in Huahine
We’ve come to the last summary table in this article to compare the two affordable accommodation options. As always, you’ll find all the information you need to make your decision!

I repeat, if you have the opportunity and time to explore Huahine Island, you won’t be disappointed! You’ll be able to enjoy a wide range of activities, including snorkelling and scuba diving to discover the coral reefs and marine life (manta rays, black tip sharks, turtles, etc.).
If your trip to Polynesia takes you to the Tuamotus, I suggest you read our article on where to stay in Rangiroa.
See you soon for another article (maybe about Polynesia again)!
