There are more and more camera accessories available nowadays and you can get a bit bogged down by all the information when trying to make the right choice. So what am I going to talk about here?
Photo filters : this is a subject that I have already discussed and one which I am passionate about.
- The polarizing filter, a filter I’ve already talked about quite a bit. This filter allows you to limit glare, increase contrast and shoot some beautiful photos. You will have to find a compromise between a low-end polarizer (reasonable price – inexpensive) and those of good quality (more expensive). It is an essential accessory for landscape photography. I’ve already written three articles on my blog about the polarizing filter in which I help you to choose the best one for you.
- The ND filter, even as an amateur photographer, I can’t get enough of these filters. The ND filter allows you to shoot long exposure photos while reducing the exposure time needed during shooting. You may also need some post-processing (retouching) knowledge in order to correct the white balance in your photos, which is sometimes necessary when using these types of filter. An ND filter is an essential accessory for capturing waterfall or large expanses of water, such as the sea, in broad daylight. I’ve given you my advice on how to choose the one, but before you do, I suggest you read my article on what an ND filter is for.
- The uv filter: I haven’t yet talked about these filters on my blog (for me they are less important than other filters), but I will come to them eventually.

Very useful camera accessories: I’ve already written about this subject in my article on travel photo accessories.
- The photo bag: essential for carrying around your photo equipment, its size will depend essentially on the size and weight of your camera, tripod, and all the other accessories (some that take up place more than others) that you will decide to take with you on your trip,
- The tripod: if you like long exposure, or you are a wildlife photographer, this is an essential piece of equipment and one you cannot do without. Your choice of tripod will depend on the kit you’re using,
- All the other accessories often found at the bottom of the kit bag: in no particular order; a remote control, an additional memory card, a battery, a waterproof bag to protect your camera from dust (very useful on safari), a UV filter, a card reader, a focal extender for macro photography fans, etc.
In short, there is lots to think about and for me to write about. Camera accessories became very important to me as soon as I started to progress in photography, and from then on I started to equip myself with more and more. Since then, I have evolved to a full frame SLR, a Canon 6D, equipped with a 70-300mm telephoto lens, a 50mm f/1.4, a 24-70mm f/2.8 and a 16-35mm f/4 wide angle lens.
If you are starting to learn photography, I advise you to focus on the most essential, and therefore the most useful, accessories, these probably include filters and tripods. Depending on what you want to photograph as you progress, you will always be able to buy some other accessoiries.
This category is meant to complement the first one entitled “Photography Equipment”. In that article you will find all the advice you need to help you choose a camera and lenses. For the time being, I have focused on DSLRs, but I also give you advice on choosing hybrid, bridge, polaroid cameras, etc. Regarding lenses, I point you in the right direction so that you can make an informed choice regarding fixed focal length, macro lenses, wide-angle lenses, etc.
Good luck with your discoveries,
